Reusse 1500 column: Four years in, Tubby is a big time flop

The Big 10 Top to Bottom is one of the best conferences. You got 7 in the ncaa and 1 in the NIT. 8 of 11 teams made the post season. I'd say you get 6 next year excluding MN. I think MN makes it in though. You guys have some good players coming in with Coleman and Hollins. Maurice Walker is going to be a NBA Center some day. You have 4 future NBA players on your current roster. Mbakwe, Williams, Austin Hollins and Walker. I really love Austin Hollins, this kid is going to be a great player and I wouldn't be surprised to see him takin to the hole with the game on the line a hell of a lot next year. Great Athlete.

Austin Hollins is a very good player. He reminds me of Eric Daniels in UK. He is so smart. I am still mad at the refs for not calling the foul on him against MSU. One day when we win the Big10, I will let it go.

Do you mean OSU? Austin Hollins got fouled at the end of the Ohio State game in Columbus, attempting a 3 point shot to send the game into overtime, and it wasn't called.

I too look forward to seeing Austin Hollins develop, I really like him.

I can't disagree with anything Reusse wrote other than that the Gophers got a "gift" invitation to the NCAA in Tubby's second year. The Gophers beat a very good Louisville team at a neutral site and finished .500 in the Big Ten. It wasn't a great year or even a very good year (none of Tubby's years have been), but it was a year deserving of a 10 seed in the NCAA.

I still say that if you look at each year individually, Tubby has met or exceeded expectations in 3 out of 4 years. It's only when you look at the tenure as a whole and see that he's yet to win a single NCAA tournament game or finish in the top half of the Big Ten that he can be viewed as a disappointment. I know someone in the thread mentioned Beilein and compared his tenure to that of Tubby's. Personally I would take Beilein partially because he won an NCAA game and push Duke to the limit in the 2nd round, but more importantly because he's go Darius Morris and Tim Hardaway Jr on his roster. I've yet to see a Tubby recruit take the floor that has shown as much offensive potential as either of these two players.

If you throw out this year his record is still 26-28 in the B10. If you had told me that Tubby would still be sub .500 in the B10 after 3 years I would have been shocked. Maybe Tubby will turn it around in year five, there will be no defections, no finger pointing and a sweet sixteen tourney run. However, even if you regard this year as an outlier, it hasn't been a good run.

Seems to me he is somewhat of a Gopher's fan, big on Austin Hollins when I have heard him on the radio. 90% of these old school reports in town understand basketball and love hockey and baseball.

Patrick Reusse is only a fan of the Gophers underperforming and underachieving. He wouldn't know how to write a positive column if I wrote it for him.

I noticed that as well. I'm sick of him talking about the past (among other things).

The good thing about Reusse writing a column taking shots at a guy like Tubby is Pat loves to bury and I mean BURY his thesis. For example, it took him 16-17 paragraphs in this column before he starts going after Tubby. Pat's style is to talk about players/coaches from a few decades ago the first half of a column (I have no idea why, but he consistently does this) and then doesn't get into his thesis until well past the page turn (in a print edition) or well beyond the virtual page turn (in an online edition) and the overwhelming majority of readership analytics show that most readers won't read past the first half of an article. Us die-hards will finish the column because it's a subject we care about, but the majority will read the headline and skim the first few paragraphs before moving on. I guess this underscores the importance of headlines, so my point is somewhat moot I guess since it wasn't a positive headline!

Go Gophers!!

notagopherfan writes nothing like FOT. People sound like idiots calling him that.

Chill my friend.

It may or may not be him, but the timing is interesting of him joining and posting everything Pro Tubby since FoT's been banned. In addition, if he created a new moniker, do you think he would keep the same sentence structure, syntax, vocab, etc. if he wanted us to think he's someone different?

You must be new to this whole internet message board thing

I still think it is FOT.

My point is that it's gotten really old, kinda like the same attacks on FOT got really old. If you've read enough from both of them it's clearly not the same person. Do you really think FOT would be capable of consistently sounding like a different person in those long responses?

Obviously I'm not new to this whole message board thing... do you not see the number of posts or date I joined?
