Returning Players Reactions - Staying/Leaving Updates

I refuse to believe any of the issues surrounding Tubby's tenure just popped up in the last year or two.

There's no way you can say his team underachieved in his first two years or so.

By underachieved I don't mean just the teams won/lost records. There have been many issues brought into question and I don't think they just began in the last year or two.

Not a big loss...in the half court he's a step slow, holds the ball too much and he can't shot outside 10 feet.

Low level D1 or hi-end D2 talent.

I think you are very wrong. I don't think Coleman was ever used in a way that show his skills. If we get a coach that doesn't mind using a transition type game you will see him thrive. I don't know if he will ever be a great long distance shooter but he did shoot 48% from the field this year which is pretty good IMO. I also think he is a very good athlete.

You are more confident than I am. For the last two hours the thought has passed through my head that in these coaching changes, the first guys talked about are almost never the ones who end up with the job. My fear is that administration believes they have a deal with a big name and then he backs out at the last minute. There is precedent for such things in college sports.

That's crazy! Nobody ever backs out of a deal in college sports. :)

The new coach is going to clean house, changes will occur. Happens after a new hire. It will be interesting. Time will tell.

Spot on- He is not a starter, but rather a solid bench player. He hustles, and active defensively, but rarely outclasses anyone in B1G play. He should add some upper classman heady play in the next few years, but in a quality program he only starts on Sr day. part of why Tubby is gone.

He fits Shaka's havoc system better than whatever it was Tubby was trying to do. The first Illinois game when we were pressing and getting runouts made Joe look pretty good.

Plays sf spot. Struggles guarding quickness. Shorter then other bigger small forwards as well. Has very good upper body strength and decent jumping ability. He does not have very good lateral quickness. Good in spots in an uptempo non big ten type game.
