Figured we could get a thread like this started since most of the players have twitter.

Alvin Ellis has been re-tweeting fans asking him to stay in Minnesota. Seems like he is pretty open to staying in town even though Tubby is leaving.

Here is Alvin's twitter page, too many tweets to include here: https://twitter.com/AEllis21

I like it. Only other tweet I saw was Wally excited about track practice. Reid Travis also said he was shocked by it, but that Minnesota would still be a school of interest.

Only player I expect to leave is Coleman.

Why's that? Not saying you're wrong, just curious why you're expecting that. I'd think current players would see who the new coach is and what his preferred style of play is before making a decision. And, if they really like Tubby, whether he continues coaching and where.

Why would you expect Coleman to leave? There's no specific incident that I can point to, but I always got the feeling this year that Coleman and Tubby didn't see eye to eye. Could be way off, but that was my impression.

Don't have specific examples on-hand, but I did see Alex Foster retweet some Gopher fan tweets as well.

If the BBallers want an idea of what a new coach will be like, talk to the FB players. NT studied this pgm. and decided coach Kill was what he wanted. If BB think there are any kid gloves on the FB staff, they are barking up the wrong tree. Talk to Trever about Coach Crean or coach K. We will be competitive or there will be another change.

I thought Maturi hired Kill.

That's what I thought. I always got the feeling Joe came to MN despite Tubby.

In fact, I would bet money that Joe was one of the guys Trevor was referring to who had difficulty with Tubby's tough love.

This is almost always how it goes when it comes to coaching changes. But, I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Just a feeling I don't have any inside info. He was complaining about facilities in an article I read and he was also rumored to transfer. You can tell Joe and Julian weren't big fans of Tubby from their reactions on the bench and them covering their mouths every time they talked. Pretty much everyone on the team could transfer and play for a division 1 school.

Other than Andre (obviously), I'm most worried about Charles Buggs tranferring because in this video he pretty much states the only reason he came to Minnesota was for Tubby. Hopefully he doesn't want to sit out another year after redshirting his first year. I would hate to lose him.

Buggs just redshirted. So he would have to sit another year. There is a gaping hole waiting for him at the forward spot. I think he stays. This is not going to be a dud hire. The players are going to be pumped once the new coach is announced and they meet him. Obviously I don't know who it is, I am just confident that these guys ahave the right guy in their pockets- firing Smith was too big of a risk otherwise.

Absolutely. If it ends up being a nondescript hire, we've got much bigger problems to come.

I agree. Firing Tubby the day after he made the second round (ignoring the play in round), you know something big will be announced. I would think most of the players would be pumped and would be all-in. Other than d-bag Brandon Smith (sorry GopherPlaya, he is), all of the Monson players seemed pretty dang excited when Tubby was hired.

You are more confident than I am. For the last two hours the thought has passed through my head that in these coaching changes, the first guys talked about are almost never the ones who end up with the job. My fear is that administration believes they have a deal with a big name and then he backs out at the last minute. There is precedent for such things in college sports.

Holy Man, are you thinking the U might get caught with 12 men on the field!? :)

I think it is unlikely any current roster players leave. I could see the 2013 recruits possibly leaving. How many football players left when Brewster got canned?

It's a bit different for football than basketball. There is always a certain amount of attrition in college football (a small handful of players leave every year) and that number goes up at coaching changes. A rough estimate, there were about 10-12 scholarship players who did not return when Kill took over. Some of them were kicked off the team/school (Jewhan Edwards) and others just went to other schools.

If the UW or any college only worried about who might leave, then a coach would never get fired, the coach would have a job for life. And as stupid as that sounds, salaries would go down if there was no chance in losing a job. You could even form a coaches union, and all coaches and their talents in America would regress toward the mean, average performance would be the flavor of the day. Maybe a 30 game schedule the number 1 ranked team would have 16 wins.

If anything, Tubby leaving will prevent guys from leaving who might have transferred. Coleman didn't seem to be a huge fan of Tubby.

I'm not sure Oto will be back, he doesn't seem like a D1 player.

Tubby was paid 12-15 million dollars for six years of underachieving. If that makes you sick Bilas, you have more serious issues.

I really don't believe he under achieved all 6 years, I can't imagine you do either.

I refuse to believe any of the issues surrounding Tubby's tenure just popped up in the last year or two.

I don't think NT has decieded anything in regards to football yet. It was too soon to make a change after only 2 years with the program but based on this decision and the way these guys have run things since they got here I don't think Kill will have an extremely long leash before they decide to go out and get "their guy".

This administration has shown that they are not afraid to go against public and national opinion. They have gotten blasted for this move much like they did when they paid the $800K to get out of the football game with UNC but they don't seem too worried about what people say or think which in some ways is refeshing after Maturi who wanted everyone to love everyone.

NT had nothing to do with hiring kill just an FYI
