Reporter rips Gophers, says fans should watch NDSU

It's just some dude posting BS to get people to click.

Folks posting this stuff are just playing into the hands of the dude they're angry with...

Could be a ploy to get people to by into TV plans that include ESPN6.

The top 25 teams in the FCS are much better football teams than the bottom half of the FBS.

Ha! This is the funniest and most ridiculous line in an article full of them. "Much better." Dear Lord. Since JV fans love Sagarin so much, let's use that against them. The current #25 team in FCS, Weber St. (7-5 BTW) is #172 in the Sagarin ratings, lower than #169 Indiana St., a team the Gophers beat by 30 without breaking a sweat. The best of the "bottom half" of the FBS, the #65 ranked FBS team in Sagarin (Arizona St.), would be about a 23 point favorite over Weber St. on a neutral site if they played today. "MUCH BETTER"!!!!

We should hear him out. He writes for a legitimate news organization, ABC..

BarnBoy is handed a note

Wait, I've just been told it's ABC Newspapers, not ABC.

Gopher football is surrounding by success stories and is on an island. Wisky to our east, NDSU/etc to our west and Iowa to a lesser extent to the south.

Forget about North, aye!

How did he type all of that with those small hands?

As usual - on Gopher hole everything is black and white. If you like the Gophers, you're supposed to dislike NDSU because...........

Believe it or not, I can root for the Gophers, and still respect NDSU for what they have accomplished.

yes - they are at different levels of college FB. But, if NDSU played the Gophers, and I had to bet my own money on the game, I'm not sure I would bet on the Gophers if the game was being played today.

What is one of the biggest complaints about the Gophers? They can't win big games.

What does NDSU do every year in the FCS playoffs? They win big games.

Let's be honest - if the Gophers were playing NDSU this week, and the Gophers had - let's say - a 10-point halftime lead - how confident would you be about the second half? When push comes to shove, the Gophers have found ways to lose big games. NDSU finds ways to win big games.

Yes - I admit it's not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison. Different levels of FB. But, within its level, NDSU is without question one of the best programs in the country. Within its level, the Gophers are without question NOT one of the best programs in the country.

But - Gopher fans - keep on making fun of NDSU if it makes you feel better. Oh, and I'm sure Wisconsin is going to have an off-season next year, because someone on Gopher Hole makes that prediction every year, so it has to come true one of these seasons, right?

Haven't the Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup recently?

I have no problem with people who like NDSU and the Gophers

I have issue with NDSU fans who think they'd be in college playoffs within few years if they jumped to P5 or owuld consistently win the B1G.

If Gophers played NDSU 12 times, Gophers would go bowling. NDSU would get a few wins

We could get Kleimann, their entire staff, and all their recruits, and guess what, we'd struggle. There is no magic to wearing NDSU uniform that makes you better at football

I don't have it in me to follow FCS, there is too much dreadful football in FCS. There is some good football, but I also don't follow the MAC/Sun Belt...etc either

How did you even find this article ha. The slights against the gophers weren't really necessary and his point about the top 25 fcs was idiotic but I think his overal point was that good football is played in the fcs and that there playoff system is fun.

Sure, this might be true. But why stop here? For those of use who live in the Twin Cities, we should give up our Gopher tickets and become St. Thomas season ticket holders because they win. Or go to Totino Grace or Eden Prairie games. Or ... wait ... I'm sure there's a freshman juggernaut we can watch because they win all the time.

The best thing to do as a fan is to always find the winningest team and watch them, regardless of the level of play or competition, or if we even give a damn about them.

If you think of college teams like stock investments, NDSU is a lot like Walmart. I hate going into that place for a lot of reasons but mainly because it feels cheap and low-end. But there is no denying that the Walmart stock has time and again done well over the last few decades.

Then there are our beloved Gophers who are a lot like JCPenny stock. At first glance, it seems like a decent enough place but certainly no Macy’s (i.e., Ohio State). From time to time JCPenny gets some attention in the market, both good and bad. And when it comes to the latter, it somehow collapses at the most inopportune times and it is highly questionable at times whether it’s turnaround efforts will ever be successful.

Although Walmart stock will likely continue to do well, I still won’t buy in. On the other hand, I’ll still throw my money at my JCPenny stock only because I’m so heavily invested in it. I will keep trying to convince myself that the one big turnaround to make it pay off is just around the corner no matter how unlikely that is to happen.

You think I should hold on to my Montgomery Ward stock?

That Herd has to state this in his article says everything to me:

"The playoffs started last week."

I had no idea, and I watch as much "Real D1" college football as possible. Nobody cares.

Haven't the Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup recently?

No. Not since 1994 and this is in an 8 or 9 team league where the Bombers have arguably the 3 or 4th most revenue. Longest drought in the CFL.

What's got you so ornery. You do know there's a difference between Like and respect. I hate Jim Harbaugh, and his antics and he looks like Patrick bateman in his new glasses, but I respect him as a coach. I think Tim Miles looks like someone on To catch a Predator, but i respect what he's done for Nebrasketball

What is Nebrasketball? Sounds intriguing!

Hey shorty,

Like others have said, we can appreciate what NDSU has accomplished "at its level", but we get sick and tired of the chest pounding we hear all the time.

They are who they are, they win a majority of the recruiting battles at their level and have become a "mini-helmet" school for their level. Minnesota produces a lot of talented football payers at their level and NDSU is closer to home. They have an excellent thing going for their level and would be stupid to mess it by playing with the big boys.

I got a kick out of that line too. Not even close to being true.

I didn't read the article and I don't think this guy is pushing for NDSU to join FBS football (maybe he is). If they did somehow join FBS football I wonder who all of the NDSU fans would start cheering for when their team starts going 8-4, 7-5, 6-6 like the Gophers? If it isn't ok to cheer for a mediocre big ten team why would it be ok to cheer for a mediocre team in whatever conference they play in?

Just trying to make the point that some (not all) Gopher Hole posters just seem to react reflexively whenever NDSU is brought up. Yes, some of their fans are arrogant. (but, if the Gophers won - say - 5 consecutive West Div titles or god forbid, 5 consecutive B1G titles, I suspect some of the Gopher Hole gang might come off as a touch arrogant, too.)

Same thing with the Wisconsin bashing.

bottom line- the Gophers need to take care of the Gophers and not worry about what other programs are doing. If NDSU has a good season, that does not or should not reflect poorly on the Gophers. (except in the minds of certain fans).

So only think or talk about things that directly impact Gopher Football. Good Plan.

Should the Moderators than eliminate 85% or 90% of the posts on here?
