Now that we have more or less figured out our 2011 class what will the 2012 class look like? With Ralph, Iverson, Devoe, and Mbakwe all probably graduating who are we looking at to replace those guys?

Russell, Magic, Bird and Michael. :) Seriously though, that will indeed be a very important class for this program so it will be interesting to follow. I'd like to see Tubby lock up a couple kids early and hopefully nab a Top 50 kid NOT from Minnesota. Go Gophers and Go Tubby!

If no one leaves via injury, transfer, inelligibility, or turning Pro, we'll have four open scolly's for 2012 and only one more for 2013. Here is a list of 2012 candidates that I have in my database as having been mentioned so far as drawing interest in Minnesota.

Siyani Chambers PG 5-11
A.J. Hammons C 7-0
Gary Harris SG 6-4
Javontae Hawkins SG 6-4
DemarquiesJohnson SG 6-5
Curtis CJ Jones PG 6-1
Junior Lomomba SF 6-5
Sanjay Lumpkin SF 6-5
Marcus Paige PG 6-0
Ron Patterson SG 6-3
J.P. Tokoto SF 6-5
Adam Woodbury C 6-11

Good list. I believe you can add Joey King from Eastview to that list as well. I do agree that it would be great to get some top talent from states other than Mn. But would rather we lock up the Mn kids first assuming they are talented enough.

You can take Ron Patterson off the list. He committed to Indiana.

I don't think we have a great chance with Tokoto, Paige, or Lomomba though. GopherWarrior will know for sure though.

Ron Patterson already verballed to Indiana. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/84/class/2012/indiana

Not many bigs on that list. If you're losing three PF/C types, you will need to bring in a couple good ones to replace them.

why arent we in the mix with paige? id think as of now were in his top 3, kansas, illinois, minny

I'd guess that a solid year by the gophs (sw16) could help a lot w Paige.

From the list posted, Patterson is obviously no longer in play, and I think it's unlikely that Minnesota lands JP Tokoto or Gary Harris. Tokoto will probably end up at an in-state school or one of the heavyweights (i.e. UNC, Duke, Kansas), while Harris will likely select something relatively close to home (e.g. Michigan St., Indiana, Ohio St., Illinois, Xavier). In addition, Adam Woodbury is apparently a pretty heavy Iowa lean. Regarding Marcus Paige, I think Minnesota is in the mix, but perhaps not as strong as a few other schools. Kansas has long been rumored to be Marcus' leader, and he had some rather favorable comments about Illinois after his visit to Champaign a couple weeks ago.

Sam Mader, a 6'8" combo forward from Appleton, WI visited Minneapolis last weekend or the weekend before, so Minnesota has some level of interest in him.

Don't know any names but hopefully Tubby will find some more prospects at -

1, Memphis - recruiting strong - would be great to get another Hollins (;))

2. Brewster Prep - didn't work out for Naadir but they should have more top talent

3. Brehm Prep - recall mention of some other good prospects there besides Oto

4. Canada - have Devoe and Mo - and just completed a successful tour

and of course Minnesota.

Do you have a summary of Madar's skills? Thx

just curious, and im sure UWole can tell me, why arent we pursuing cimeon bowers, phillip nolan, and arroyo edwards? we should be

I have not seen a ton of Mader, just at the state tournament last March, but I think the best description is that he's versatile. His best skill right now is his ability to shoot, but he can do a little bit of everything. He is a bit thin at this point, but he has good height/length and moves pretty well. Not sure how he projects at the next level, as he has PF height but probably not the strength or weight. There is obviously time to work on that though. On the flip side, he shoots is well enough to be a SF, but he might have trouble defending quicker players on the perimeter. I don't think he's a slam dunk high major kid right now, but definitely someone worth keeping an eye on.

Bowers is an interesting prospect, as his size (6'6" or so and about 240) and athleticism are a nice combination. He also has pretty nice skills, particularly handling the ball for a guy his size. Anthony Mason from the Knicks several years back would be a reasonable comparison. However, I have heard he's not the best kid in the world on multiple fronts. He has also bounced around schools (Nicolet to prep school to prep school to Milwaukee King over the last 18 months) and reclassified, so he may have qualification questions. In my opinion, there are reasons to stay away.

Personally, I like Nolan. He is around 6'9" and very slender, but he's also a very good athlete. Nolan is still somewhat raw, but he has some length and physical abilities that you can't teach. His shooting mechanics are solid, so he could eventually be a big who can step out and knock down some jumpers. UW spent some time recruiting him, but that may have changed with his move to Huntington (WV) Prep this fall. I believe Marquette has offered, and he recently picked up a Texas offer. I do not recall hearing much about Minnesota and Nolan, but if I was to pick the one of these three I'd most like UW to recruit, it would be Nolan.

Edwards has some potential, as he has nice length and athleticism on the perimeter. He handles and passes pretty well, but he needs some work on his shooting. Again, I have not heard much about Minnesota being involved with Edwards, but that certainly doesn't mean they are not. I believe UW and Marquette have shown a little bit of interest, but nothing too serious.

Wow, that's quite a list, thanks. I'm no recruiting guru, but I think I've heard of some of those guys. Any idea which of those are just considering us? I hope at some point we can get some 2012 guys to consider us too!

As stated we'll need big men w/ RS3, Colt, Mbakwe & Rodney on the way out or gone. Hopefully the team & those big men will have been so successful that prep big men across the country will be waiting in line to play at the U. If nothing else, we'll have playing time to sell.

Sometimes player come out of the woodwork. I talked to Andre Hollins on 7/15 when he was playing with the Memphis Magic in a tournament at Bloomington Jefferson. He told me that he had narrowed his list of schools to five and Minnesota was not one of them. Three months and two weeks later, he was a Gopher. Just goes to show you never know when it comes to recruiting.

Many of the players that they missed out on like Krys Faber (who has done little at DePaul) and Scott Harralson (who is no longer at Connecticut) in 2008 and Darius Smith (who is no longer at Connecticut) and Sam Dower (who was redshirted at Gonzaga last year) in 2009 turned out to not be missed.
