Rece$$ion Proof: The Online Home of the Section 117 Cla$$y Gentlemen

GBG - I hope the headgear has arrived. If not, I will gladly donate my gopher bandanna, currently being used as a pocket square, to your noble cause.

THE Bandanna made it here, safe and sound yesterday afternoon. Phew.

Nice work on your 4-Downs, solid read, and enjoyed your opening tail of growing up in Wisconsin and not being a Badger. I can so relate.

Hey guys, lots of new content on the blog today for those of you (and I know there are a lot) trying to look like you're working. Get Big Party's thoughts on the lunchtime rally downtown, learn how I permanently turned from Badger to Gopher fan in the span of a single game, and read Kellen's musings about the Gopher-Penn State game from school last week.

Very nice story. I also grew up in WI. To be more accurate born and raised down the street from Camp Randall. I have a lot of family that are Badger fans. My parents are 100% ok with me being a Gopher fan as well.

Thank goodness. The stars are aligning!

I actually think all the Classy Gentlemen are from Wisconsin except Rap (Brainerd) and Flony (Orlando). But the important thing is we all bleed maroon and gold. Especially Kellen.

Thanks for the comments everyone. We'll be in Lot 37 against the fence that's furthest from The Bank tomorrow. Stop by and say hello if anyone else is in the area!

I hate losing to Wisconsin, but I've definitely felt worse about it than I did today. Other than the result, an all-around fun day with great tailgating and lots of positives from the Gopher D. I cover all of it today in Higgy's Handshake.

How were your experiences yesterday? Anyone still frozen? Am I being too optimistic? Not optimistic enough?

Defense was great. Offense had too many missed opportunities (missed passes, drops, penalties, non-calls by refs, fumbles).
I was surprised how it didn't feel that cold.
Reaffirmed that Wisconsin fans are the lowest class, most obnoxious fans out there.

I agree completely, Word. Those fumbles, a few missed throws and a couple inexplicable missed PI calls were the difference and killed our offense. I thought the officiating was good for the most part, but the non-PI calls on a few gopher throws - compared to how they called for the Badgers (including in the end zone) was atrocious. As for the fans, we had a few dust-ups with the visitors as usual, but not as many as usual. Our friends wearing red and white were great.

Is there anything worse than a guy in a Wisconsin hat and Blackhawks jersey sitting in your section illegally and trying to start fights with everyone?

Today on the blog I compiled a comprehensive list of all the postseason awards won by Gophers and offered my takes on some of them. Nice to have all the honors in one spot. (I'll add to the list as others come in.)

Also - check out the final nugget at the bottom about our latest DB recruit. Good player, and now endless comedy associated with it.

Big stuff coming over the next week as we build up to the bowl game!

Nothing to add, just thought I would break up the 7 straight posts streak HoH had on this thread. No one should have to reply to themselves 7 times in a row.

Big Easy on Kirby is a good place for Blues. Not far from the Gingerman and Brian Oneills (Rice U area). Ragin Cajun is just up Richmond from the Galleria...have some gumbo and boudain. Also in the Galleria...The Men's Club and Treasures ;).

In midtown, check out Celtic Garden and Pub Fiction...right by Specs liquor. There is also a dueling piano place...Howl at the Moon nearby. Several Little Woodrows pubs around the area.

If you want to watch some hockey, check out the Maple Leaf Pub.

Try the chicken fried steak at Hickory Hollow, BBQ at Goode Company is closest to Galleria.

Cheers. Gopher '89.
