RB Cole Cabana?

I dunno, looks fast running circles around high school competition. Michigan’s two senior rbs weren’t bad, but their pass game was. He doesn’t seem like a pure rb with a great feel for finding holes and breaking tackles like Taylor, but the speed looks legit.
I'm sure the speed is legit but like I said is he football fast at this level. Maybe he is but I think for him it's the better play to go to the MAC be more likely to play and if works out transfer back up where is if he comes here, gets some glorified mop up duty and ends up transferring down next year. Then he in his mind has wasted another year. It just seems like what he his doing now makes more sense long term. Will see!

There was some chatter on Michigan boards about moving him to WR.

From a pure financial standpoint, it probably makes sense for him to go to Western Michigan. He will probably be RB1. WMU's RB transferred there from OK State last year and had a really good year. He entered the portal on December 22nd. I'd guess guess Nixon entering the portal was the big thing that changed since December 15th.

My guess is that Cabana saw what happened for him (Nixon) and he sees that as the path of least resistance to PT and NIL $$ and he's probably not wrong.

It’s crazy, but you can’t blame the kid. He’s not gonna get a lot of carries this year with DT and the transfers, so go put up some stance and film at Western Michigan and then come back and make your money next year by transferring up to a P5 school. This system is messed up, but you can’t blame the players for taking advantage of it.

10 years ago we'd be holding candlelight vigils after losing a former 4-star transfer Michigan running back. It's nice to sleep easy knowing our skill rooms are as packed as they've ever been in Dinkytown. RTB. Happy New Year fellas (and the few ladies)
That’s not true with a few exceptions we have always had great RBs. The Eskridge and Bennett years may be the exceptions but then again everything kinda sucked for a bit then.

assuming that Cabana was going to get something in terms of NIL and revenue sharing - that at least frees up some funds that could go to another player - either someone already on the roster or maybe an additional transfer.

this really highlights some of the pros and cons of the portal - a player goes somewhere else in search of money and/or playing time, but then his new school also takes other players at his position. Hey - no guarantees. and I would be very doubtful that Fleck & co made any hard promises about playing time.

I'm sure that Mangham and Bangura thought they would get more carries when they came to MN last year. it didn't work out that way.

We've had guys greatly exceed expectation in Mo and Cobb, but it wasn't like our RB rooms were full of highly recruited 4+ star guys over the last 15 years.

Wouldn’t of mattered how many four-star guys we recruited when Cobb and Mo were carrying the ball they would’ve ridden the bench. At times we pined for other positions needing more talent but generally not RB.

I don't think it was his decision to leave. Guessing he couldn't get into school here.
I doubt it had anything to do with competition. He's a 4 Star from Michigan...he thinks he'd start here. If he had doubts in his mind of being a Gopher he wouldn't get involved with DinkyTownAthletes.

He did not think he was going to come here and take Darius Taylor’s carries.

We were his best opportunity until the Western Michigan spot became wide open and he thinks he can go there, put up a big year, and cash in on the portal next year.

As someone who loves and has two degrees from the U, getting in wouldn't be a problem for a kid who went to Michigan

Not if he failed a bunch of classes there. Not saying that happened, but it could create an admission issue.

This makes perfect sense. One of probably a very small number of scenarios he was looking for opened up for him and he jumped at it. Basically just bad luck that the WMU spot opened up. Speaking of, does anyone know how this works? If a player in the portal commits somewhere are other teams still able to contact him?
