Rape allegations at house of Tommy Armstrong and Jordan Westerkamp

When I was at school at UNL ALL of the football players drove Escalades. I guarantee nothing will transpire from this...they would cover up a murder for a Fusker.

They all have 'part time jobs' down at the car dealership owned by a big booster. They work several minutes per year to earn those checks. I don't know what you're implying.

LMAO...I am sure they pay rent on the house as well ($10 a month to some booster who owns the place).

Right? And I thought athletes couldn't afford to order Pizza and go to the movies.

It's a really old house built in 2012, it's not like their rolling in some newly built pad

Nate, that is hilarious! Maybe someone should help them out and report their landlord to the housing authority! ;-)

Not sure what you all are implying. I lived in a very similar house on the U campus - well other than the garage, paved driveway, screens on the windows, and what appears to be a lock on the front door.

$500 per guy. 4 guys. That looks like a $2k or less house. Absolutely can be done on an athletics scholarship. I had a roommate on scholarship paying $750/month for his room.

Amazing to watch a bunch of gown people getting hot and bothered about college students not living in poverty.

I think most people are just worried that these poor athletes are not getting the full cost of their scholarship covered.

Even more funny that some don't understand what the term "hot and bothered" typically refers to.

I find it crazy that there's some low hanging fruit to criticize these kids for a possible rape and all people can focus on is petty jealousy that they might be living a little better than they did when they went to college.

Love that they have a Google map with the address on it embedded in the story. Does the press think this will now be a tourist attraction?

Like these?

So basically a dump in Dinkytown.

Probably? I have absolutely no idea what rent prices are near the U. I was a bit surprised to see how low priced that house was, but I suppose home prices are cheaper in Lincoln than in the Twin Cities.

It is strange that they are athletes and live in a house that's at least a few minute drive away from campus. Wonder if that's very common for Gopher athletes?

I have no idea what they are right now, but the last college house I lived in had rent of $3,200 a month for a complete dump, and that was in 2002.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily petty jealousy. In the offseason, three topics seem to come up quite frequently.

1. Athletes committing crimes.
2. The "enslavement" of college athletes and how poor they are because of regulations around being unable to work, requirements of their sport, etc..
3. How boosters are paying kids under the table or giving them special deals/treatment.

Then this story comes up about an alleged crime at the house where star players are residing, which from all appearances is very nice and not typical of a college student. This naturally will bring people to speculate on how they would be able to afford it. The point above about how much the housing costs in Lincoln vs Mpls are probably spot-on, but from the initial glance it appeared suspect. Also, these aren't the kids being investigated for the alleged rape, it happened at their house.

The picture of the house they show in the story doesn't look like anything extravagant. The way it was being described I was expecting some sort of mansion. Multiple players living in a place like that wouldn't be paying all that much per person in rent. Seems really odd how hung up on that house people are unless there is something else about it I am missing.

You are very wrong, the Star tribune will be all over this and uncover the truth and call for the coach to be fired.

Housing prices are a lot cheaper there. I own some rentals there and just for reference I bought a two year old townhouse(3 bed, 2 bath, 1700 sq ft) there a couple years ago that I rent for $1300 and purchased for $125,000.

Hate to say I told you so but...
I have a friend who indicated that the were probably involved but it was swept away by the powers that be. Shocking, isn't it.

Amazing how you don't understand words and phrases aren't always used the way they were originally used.
