Rankings: 3/4/13

Bit lower than I was expecting (33rd, was expecting 27th-29th). We might still fall short of the top 25 with a sweep this week, pending other teams' results. I think the only sure way we crack the top 25 is with a 4-1 (or better) finish through the BTT.
 




We can now play the "Nobody Believes in Us!" card. Bill Simmons will be betting the house on Minnesota.
 


Those losses to Iowa and tOSU had a lasting effect on the voters. Will probably be a detriment to our NCAA Tournament seeding as well unless we reach the B1G Tournament finals.

I think if we make the BTT semis and sweep our final two regular-season matchups we'll be back to where we were prior to tOSU and Iowa in the eyes of the committee. It would mean we don't have any more bad losses, pick up one more top 50 win, and would be 7-3 in our last 10 (3-1 vs top 50).

I don't mind it this way. Maybe, our guys player better when they are not ranked???

I look at the losses to NW and Illinois here at home as the ones that have been the big problem. Michigan State at 7 losses is all the way up at #10. We would be 22-7, 10-6 in conference and probably ranked between 12 and 15 had we simplly taken care of business in those games. But you gotta win those.
 



Not suprised about the AP amd coaches, but a little suprised about CBS. Plenty of arguments could be made for us being over some of the teams ranked, but in the end it doesn't matter. Just keep playing well and it will all work out. We had a brutal stretch we need to make up for.

Agree there are lots of teams between maybe #20 and #35 who are all pretty close. Agree the two blowouts probably hurt, and the home loss to Illinois. I would guess 2 more reg season wins and a couple in the BTT would net the Gophs a 5 or 6 seed at worst in the NCAA tournament...
 

Polls...Stars...About equally meaningful. What matters to the selection committee...RPI, BPI, Wins against Top 25,50,100 etc. We are very strong in these categories...and frankly, I would rather NW wins BTT so we can erase our one bad loss!
 

There were a lot of voters that held onto us in the top 25, and I think are two big losses left them with egg on their face.

You were right and I was wrong. We got hardly any respect which as mcal24 said may be for the best any way.
