9. Drake Lindsey, Minnesota

The 6-foot-5 230-pounder isn't much of a running threat, but he's steadily progressing in the passing game completing close to 65% of his passes with only two INTs. He threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns against Rutgers but struggled to push the ball vertically in a loss versus Ohio State last weekend. Minnesota's salty defense has helped the redshirt freshman ease into the job, but its schedule is now stiffening up. Lindsey, a former three-star, will have to take his game to the next level.

Go Gophers!!

#1 & #2 crack me up a little. It's just too easy to rank them at the top. They have dominant teams compared to their competition. I think we know more about the other guys that are forced to elevate their teams, not the other way around.

Re-Ranked based on QBR per

Lindsey
67.2
Washington

Alejado
47.2
JKS

Heintschel

Not saying that QBR is a great metric, just looking at stuff while bored.

Heintschel is a weird inclusion. I looked through their schedule and boxscores, and he appeared in the 2nd game of the season, in mop up duty throwing 4 passes. Eli Holstein (ex Alabama) was the starter, but got yanked, not injured after game 4. Heintschel doesn't even show up on the ESPN QBR table, and he was not the first guy off the bench when someone besides Holstein was put in the game in 3 other occasions. He was the starter in the most recent game. Like I wrote, weird add.

More context:

Carr outperformed season long QBR vs TaM, Purdue, Ark. Underperformed vs Miami, Boise
Sayin over QBR vs Washington, MN. Under vs TX, Grambling, Ohio
Underwood over QBR vs SMU, Neb. Under vs U New Mex, OU, wisconsin
Bachmeier over QBR vs ECU, Colorado, WVU. Under vs Portland State, Stanford
Jackson over QBR vs UTSA, Nichols State, Ark St. Under vs EMU, ASU
Lindsey over QBR vs NWST, Rutgers, tOSU. Under vs Buff, Cal
Washington over QBR vs Towson, wisonsin, Washington. Under vs. FAU, NIU
Alejado over QBR vs Stanford, Air Force. Under vs Arizona, Fresno St
JKS over QBR vs Oregon St, Minnesota, BC. Under vs Texas Southern, SDSU, Duke

Having one of the best 10 freshman QBs in the country bodes well for the Gophers. If he's top 10 now he should maintain being at top 20 QB or better QB through his career. Personally, the kid looks like he has NFL talent even more than Brosmer from an arm talent and athleticism POV. Not sure if he will be as good a leader and student of the game as Brosmer is a very sharp kid but we will see about that with Drake. If he can approach Brosmer between the ears he could be very good.

Let's hope we can find him a Bateman type WR to throw to. Now _that_ would be fun.

Yeah, give him a top end WR and they would be hard to beat on the offensive side of the ball.

But maybe adding a TE like Voss to the mix might do as well. Martino was a big time recruit, maybe he becomes that guy.
