Per Backus:

2. Minnesota

Quarterbacks: Dylan Wittke (R-So.); Max Shikenjanski (R-So.); Drake Lindsey (R-Fr.); Jackson Kollock (Fr.)

Minnesota hit transfer portal gold with quarterback Max Brosmer, but he moved on to the NFL after one year with the Golden Gophers. Minnesota went back to the portal to add Georgia Tech transfer Zach Pyron, who subsequently left the program and transferred to South Alabama in April. That leaves Minnesota with one quarterback -- Lindsey -- who has attempted a pass at the collegiate level. Lindsey went 4 for 5 for 50 yards as a freshman last season and will likely start in 2025. Minnesota's staff is high on the 6-foot-5 second-year player, but his in-game ability is still a big question mark.

Go Gophers!!

Lazy assumptive writing.

I can see an honorable mention, but it’s not like we’re starting someone who wasn’t productive at the previous level!!!

Who knows. PJ went all out to get Max last year because he knew AK wasn't the answer nor was the answer in his back-ups. I can only assume from his apparent QB recruiting that he and the staff think Lindsay is ready.

Bleak, what the heck are they talking about. Lindsey has all the tools and if he gels with the offensive line Minnesota likely scores a lot of points. We have some excellent weapons at the skill positions.
Gophers are going to be dangerous team in 2025.

It is called......throw crap together into a list and publish it season......little to no research is done for most of this they just look at stats and rosters and make proclimations based on what they see.

It's funny how people react to articles like this. The headlines are clickbait ("bleakest")—the information is intended for the average fan of the conference. To someone's point, dire would be we don't have a scholarship QB on the roster, but no one clicks on a link with the

If you looked at last year, there were several articles about how barren the QB room was, and that Max did great at the FCS level, but, c'mon, this is the B1G! and every other QB on the roster transferred out!

For the average conference football fan, trying to gauge how their team will fare, they look at stuff like this to feel better about their situation.

To say the best QB we have on the squad has thrown a total of 5 collegiate does put us in the "unknown" category, but an article that talks about the QBs with the most questions at QB isn't as interesting as who is really facing the end of existence at the position in the world of ad sponsored content.

There are very few coaches who have a proven track record in recruiting players to the point that when any position on the depth chart has four players with a total of less than 20 snaps (a guess, but I think we can agree it's not a lot) it isn't a concern, particularly in the age of the transfer portal.

Safety was a concern last year, but it turned out not to be an issue, as the best Gopher safety since Tyrone Carter arrived, so there's hope. We also know that PJ was high on AK before 2023, and we are aware of that outcome. PJ was concerned enough to bring in a QB with experience, but not so concerned that he brought in someone who would seriously challenge Lindsay. Whether that was the right call or not, that's where we are when Pyron left. We'll find out in a few months, but as I've said before, the bigger issue we have is that we had an experienced offensive line the past two seasons with some good continuity, and they played inconsistently. Can this new group come together and play at a higher level? If not, it doesn't matter how good the QB is or the skill players; we'll struggle, but that's not what this article was all about. It appears it was about the class of the players on the list, because with some of the teams on the list, I'd argue their QB room is in worse shape than ours (and their teams have less to work with in other positions) but if there was at least one upper classman on the roster, they got a little more love.

I thought Lindsey is only taking the snap to hand off to Darius Taylor.
Did you ignore the running game last year? Taylor's good, but our O-line as a unit? Not so much, and there are more questions there this year than last.

Bleak is unfair. We're one of only 4 Big Ten schools not going with someone else's sloppy seconds.
