Per Ben:

8. Minnesota Gophers

Starters: Danny Striggow (RUSH), Cody Lindenberg (ILB), Maverick Baranowski (ILB), Joey Gerlach (SLB)

Minnesota has one of the sneakier linebacker units in the conference after a struggle in 2023. Lindenberg is back and healthy in the middle of the defense and should benefit from increased experience and production around him.

This season should show whether the 2023 season was an outlier. Either the Gophers’ defense will return to its elite level, or the program and its defense are on a steep decline.

Go Gophers!!

I worry about the depth too but if we get younger guys to step up like some have in the past it's a solid starting group to rally around

Based on returning players, Linebacker is likely the weakest position group on either side of the ball.
Guys who didn't play last year could change that, of course. Or other position groups falling apart.
But as of right now, likely the weakest.

Oh, and Danny Striggow isnt a member of that group.

Lindenberg at 100% may be a top 3 player on the team. We lacked the experienced talent behind him last year. This year we’ll have more experience behind him, but the talent level appears to be a significant drop off still.
