Randle on the Block?

Well there goes my master plan...time to head to the bar and call it a career as a GM.

Time to cut our losses; it doesn’t fit.
Any ideas? And are we over apron?

I was under impression we couldn’t trade except for a straight up match do to apron rules? I don’t know that though.

No clue. I’m apron illiterate.

I just want something to change and am desperate 🤷‍♂️
Understood. Part of me thinks its got to a maturity of Ant. He has to make those around him better/distribute.

Maybe what I mean is easier with an anaolgy. When the MLB stopped pitching Tony Gwynn inside; he worked to hit the outside pitch over the fence. They then were forced to thorw that inside fastball.

I think he needs to work on that element to keep them from limiting him.

Bob knows about this stuff better than I, but from what I understand being a 2nd Apron team:

* We can't package or aggregate players together in a trade

* We can't take back even $0.01 more than our outgoing player's salary

* We can take back multiple players in exchange for one (1) of ours as long as their salaries are an exact match or are less than our guy

* We could include draft picks with our outgoing player to sweeten a deal but outside of the DET 2025 1st, we don't have another tradable draft pick until 2033.

My guess is if we do find a taker for Randle, the return will probably be role players, preferably a backup PG and/or C.

It's expected that Randle opts in to the last year of his deal for roughly $30M which would seem to indicate that even he recognizes how little other teams value him. We might even need to include the DET 2025 1st just to dump him.

When it all shakes out, our final return for the likely 2025 starting All Star C in the East could be an epic disaster with only DDV to show for it.

Randle would be fine if he played off of the bench for 20 minutes a game.

You can't win a championship with him as a starter.

When they trade Randle, please do it looking past this year.

My fear is they make the trade only looking to sneak in this year, only to be one and done.

Make the trade looking past this year and into the future........like two years out.

Connelly was looking past this year when he made the Towns trade in the first place. Randle was never going to be a part of their long term plans.

Jalen Johnson is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Could ATL be a trade partner?

MIN in: Bogdanovic ($17.5M) & Okongwu ($14.5M)

ATL in: Randle ($33M)

C Gobert/Okongwu
PF Reid/Bogdanovic
SF McDaniels/NAW
SG Ant/DiVincenzo
PG Conley/Dilly

There was an article thst said the Hawks would be interested in a veteran player to help their playoff aspirations.

So 🤞

Bogdanovic still has a couple of years left on his deal. No thanks. Atlanta would have to add an unprotected pick to make me consider it.

So does Okongwu. This trade would most certainly lead to the loss of Naz and/or NAW. It exemplifies how truly difficult it will be to get anything of real value back by trading Randle.

My guess is that they see what happens in the off-season. If Randle doesn't opt out, then a panic trade might have to happen. If he does opt out, then we have some flexibility.

Not really. If Randle opts out, we would still be over the projected $157M Cap for next season and we completely lose his $30M trade slot that can't be replaced.

NAW is a FA and Naz will definitely opt out. That would leave us with $15M under the Cap to find replacements for Julius, NAW and Reid.

It's potentially a brutal situation but having Bird Rights for NAW and Reid, we could still resign them and legally go back over the Cap. It's ugly if all three (3) guys walk and we only have $15M to spend on replacements to fill the roster:

C Gobert/???
PF Minott/???
SF McDaniels/TSJ
SG Edwards/DiVincenzo/Clark
PG Conley/Dilly

There is no way they let Naz walk. They will go over the cap before they allow that to happen IMO.

I hope they don't bring Minott back. He is terrible.

Regardless of what happens with Randle, I think we find a way to bring back both Naz and NAW. Reid will be highly coveted, though.

I think it Doesn’t meet the rules for 2nd apron? You can only trade player for a matching salary. No aggregated matching. Seems like that applies to incoming and outgoing. However, I really don’t try to hard to read em. Keep thinking they are what they are no matter how much time I spend there.

I believe as a 2nd Apron team, they can't aggregate players/salaries with Randle and send them to the same team. However, they are allowed to take back multiple players as long as their combined salaries are equal to or less than Randle's.

Tiki is right, though...that trade is not enough coming back for Randle but I really like Okongwu as a younger C/PF.

He left tonight's game and didn't return with a groin injury.
That could really muck up the rotation and/or trades if it's something serious.
