Per RandBall:

Players getting paid is good for them, even if the system is out of control and everything happened too fast.

I can get used to that a lot more easily than the one thing I consider the most troubling part of the portal era. Scoggins summed it up like this:

Imagine if professional athletes were eligible to become free agents after every season. That’s essentially college sports today.

That’s the part of this that isn’t tenable or reasonable, really, for anyone involved. It’s somewhere between devastating and bewildering for fans. It’s crushing for coaches who invest in recruiting and developing players only to have to re-recruit them every year or worse yet lose them when they become stars. In many cases, it creates unhealthy habits and expectations for players, even if the financial gains are undeniable.

Go Gophers!!

I mean what could possibly be wrong with every player on every team being an unrestricted free agent every year......One free transfer with immediate eligibility and then make them sit out for a year if they want to transfer again. That would go a long way towards slowing down the insanity.

it enables coaches like Prime and Belichick to turn over a roster in record time.

One year contracts with a team option for another year with pay set by the previous years performance?

Somewhat like the baseball arbitration process.

A salary cap would be nice too but probably not realistic.

If we want to save college sports, then clearly something has to give in regard to NIL. Once again, the wealthy is going to take control for what they want and make life miserable for others.

They want to be professionals then treat them like pros. Sign a contract, you want out, then you buy it out or you don't play. And if you don't play you don't get paid. If the Gophers lose a guy like Koi ok, but at least they could recoup some of that money. That would slow kids down. Huh if I leave I owe $2m. Well maybe I won't leave every year.
