Quincy Avery: Drake Lindsey is so much better than anyone understands. I truly and honestly believe he's gonna be a Rd1 pick when it's all said & done

They should have put QA in QA at EA

I just downloaded NCAA '26 for the first time this morning and Lindsey is rated a 72, which makes him the worst QB1 on any team in the game that I can find, including FCS schools. Mid-majors have whole QB rooms rated higher than him. Shikenjanski is rated a 69.

I noticed that but I never compared to anyone else. Do you happen to know offhand how his rating compares to other redshirt Freshmen in the game?

Keep in mind he shut down his recruitment before his senior year. He had some other P4s sniffing around with his big senior year.
It feels like Drake made it really clear to teams he was all in on Minnesota pretty early on so that definitely would keep his offer list smaller.

Going to be fun to see what he can do. There are almost certainly going to be some growing pains but if he can avoid the big mistakes he can hopefully hit the ground running.

Obviously, EA is full of dinks!

Check out this story on NFL qbs and how they were viewed in high school....Josh Allen had to go JUCO and there are all kinds of other guys that were not high profile guys coming out of high school that have made it to the NFL.

Yes, for example, Aaron Rodgers who began at a JUCO due to lack of good offers from high school. Rodgers' handicap seemed to be his relatively small stature in high school.

We have to remember that Lindsey verbally committed to the Gophers pretty early (May of his junior year) so that might have limited offers from a number of higher-level programs.

I'll take a look when I get another chance. His rating is absurdly low.

Even Nevada has all 3 QBs rated a 75 or higher. And the Gophers shut out Nevada last season 27-0, as Nevada went 3-10 and lost all their conference games.

Based on this, sounds like the ratings might not be that reliable?

If they have the impact or star development trait attached to him I would be more willing to be less annoyed than if it was just the normal dev trait. I get how it's hard to rate a rs frosh in a game who has five career passes. The thing about the dev trait is that his postseason jumps will be more substantial if they're above normal. If he only has normal it's lazy.

This is just their way to get us to buy next year's version so we can have the "new and improved" ratings for Drake🙄

Per Strib:

"The Arkansas coaching staff, however, opted to recruit dual-threat quarterbacks rather than the 6-5, 230-pound Lindsey, a drop-back passer. The staff showed interest in Lindsey late in the recruiting cycle, but Gophers coach P.J. Fleck and offensive coordinator Greg Harbaugh Jr. already had built tight bonds."

The story was Petrino came back into the fold late at Arkansas during LIndsey's recruitment and they went after him hard but he shut them down completely.
Interview by Grim and JG, starts at 23 minutes in, Drake says Arkansas showed little interest, never offered.

Gotta believe speed is the key thing working against Drake because in video games speed is one of the most important traits and a lot of those smaller school QBs are likely to be smaller/quicker guys.

But yeah.....wouldn't put much stock in the EA ratings :)

Look at all the debate that happens every year when the madden ratings are released.

Not a JA statement IMO but you generally have a Debbie downer vibe about the Gophers. Probably what he was getting at.
I don’t t feel I do at all. I like PJ and what he’s doing a lot. IMO I’m just a bit more realistic on what to expect from players, and maybe not as highly optimistic as some. Does not mean at all that I don’t want Drake to be great.

I was really high on AK and not as high on Brosmer, so it’s a very fair take that my opinions can be wrong…

My only point in the thread was just stating facts about his recruiting offers and if a guy offered where he was became a #1 draft pick and potentially the best gopher QB ever that it would be an anomaly.

It would be great if true. Also a shock if a lightly recruited 3 star QB became by far the best QB in Gophers History (at least from an NFL perspective)…
Most of our players that went on to be the best NFL guys were lightly recruited 3 stars.

That’s fair. Maybe it’s true and I’ve never looked it up but I was more referring to 1st round QB draft picks. I wonder how many in the last 10-15 years had a single P5 offer. Could be a bunch I guess who knows…

I tend to worry less about Lindsey than I do the WR group. I could easily be missing things and the portal guys should be good, but there's not a ton of experienced depth beyond the first unit. Hope it all comes together because the raw talent is probably there both at QB and WR.

My personal bugaboo is offensive tackle. Kicking Ray outside doesn’t inspire a lot of faith in our depth. I think we’ll have a sneaky good WR group.

I really hope a few years down the road, Razorback fans will be incessantly griping about how their program let a legacy, hometown kid end up at Minnesota.

Lindsey has potential to be best Gopher QB ever, just like AK, or any other recent starter. As was said, the bar isn't super high. No offense to anyone, as we've seen some solid seasons.

I see cautious optimism among us, due to various sources touting Lindsey, even if he was not heavily recruited. The fact the staff feels confident in him, has also built optimism. Every year there are many 3 and 4 star QB recruits that never see meaningful playing time. I think the fact he has earned the starting spot means he is likely playing at a "4 star" level now, regardless of what his rating was in HS.

Damnit, Spaulding.
