Quick show of hands on Ralph

And the only ones of that list that have better numbers than Ralphs 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds, is Johnson (projected 1st round pick), Leuer (projected 2nd round pick) and Sullinger (projected lottery pick).

Ralph doesn't need to apologize to trail those three future nba players. Yes, there are players who have better stats and %.

I should have asked who other than Hoffarber has a better shot than Sampson for the Gophers?

"Name all these national 7 footers who have a better shot than Ralph."

The question at hand was who had a better shot, not who scores more points. I provided, easily, 5 or 6 centers in the B10 alone that have a better SHOT than RS3. That says nothing about the points they log as that depends on who else is on your team, minutes you log, etc.

Yes and you answered the question, very well done.

My point is Ralph isn't the weak link on this team. For a post player who sucks so bad according to everybody putting up 10 and 5 without every point being a dunk he must be at least a good shooter. He is second on the team in shot attempts and field goal % and we all know he isn't attacking the rim like Trevor.

I do agree the points is misleading but so is judging players based solely on your opinion. Are you basing your list on numbers, your keen eye for shooting, or other factors like a pg who can create easier opportunities for baskets and higher field goal %. Everything in sports is flawed in one way or another.

He is not the weak link thats why I would want him back.

Funny stat Ralph avg 5.5 rebs next to Trevor who apparently steals his rebounds and 5.8 without Trevor when there was rebounds galore to be had .... not much difference.

agree somewhat.. Is there really that much talent? good passer, face up shot from 15 isnt bad but bottom line he plays like he is 6'3....

The talent is there. The problem, IMO, is temperament. If he played with some confidence and aggression he would be a very, very good player.

Actually, Tisdale is a 10.1 pt/6.4 reb guy, so his numbers are better than Ralph's, too. Frankly, he's a better player than Ralph.

Mirkovic is a 7.8 pt/5.5 reb guy, so he isn't far behind.

Ralph is who he is. He's a slightly above average Big Ten player. He's a role player, not a go-to guy. He serves a purpose, but is not a high level player at any one skill (average shooter, average rebounder, average defender, average athlete).

Frustrating that he appears to have more potential than being an average Big Ten player, but that's what he is and likely what he will ever be. Some had hopes that he'd develop his game into a bona fide All-Big Ten player, but I'm just not sure he has the skills or mentality necessary for elevating his game to that level.

There's no shame in being a solid Big Ten player. But, there's also little chance to be an NBA player by being just a solid Big Ten player.

Those numbers are damn near even, but you are allowed your opinion that Tisdale is better than Sampson. It seems to me that they are pretty much the same player, I would question how many Illinois fans were hoping he didn't play this year? In their lone head to head matchup this season in Minnesota, Sampson had 16 pts 11 rebs vs Tisdale and his 4 points and 1 rebound.

I completely agree he isn't a premier player, but when he is the third option like Tisdale he can be very effective.

I just find it funny how people wish Sampson leaves early, but throughout the year this board has been full of threads wishing we had Justin Cobbs and even Bryant Allen. I'm sure if Sampson doesn't comeback (which is laughable) or if he gets hurt next year there will be plenty of people discussing how much he would be missed.

Agree. They are very, very much alike. Tisdale is the better shooter, though, which makes him a better player, IMO.

Agree. Not sure what the benefit of Ralph leaving would be...for either party (Ralph and the Gophers).

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat."

Its funny how comedy movies can have so many quotes that apply to sports fans.

We would miss Sampson passing on high post.

Sampson is a small forward in a big man's body on offense. He is a slow footed, unphysical presence on defense. He is a good shotblocker.

Moe is not a shot blocker. Eliason who knows? Colt has regressed this year.

I don't want anyone to transfer but if I would be happy for someone I could see Colt sitting out a year and going to somewhere like Northern Iowa and putting up 12pts 7reb and a couple blocks a game. His decent low post skills are just not used on a team with Trevor and Moe.

Ralph could be our best shooter next year. At minimum he is the best returning shooter. Coleman probably won't shoot from outside well as a freshmen and I'll wait and see on the other Hollins. Otto can shoot from what I hear, but let's see how he plays defense because that will determine his minutes.

Haven't we learned what losing scholarship players does for the depth of your squad? I want EVERYONE back next year, enough with losing players, that's not gonna get us where we wanna get. Ralph Sampson isn't a beast in the paint, so what? He's still an effective player, and can definitely change shots in the paint. I don't know why just because a player may not be everything we want him to be, he has to "suck", or we want him gone? Ralph is gonna be a major piece next year if we want to get back on our horse and achieve the goals we want next year. If he leaves, we will undoubtedly be suffering a blow.
