There is a link above to discounted rooms at the Westin where the teams and Gopher fans are staying. It’s about $130 per night

Sure, thanks, but I’d be going by myself and I’d be making sure I got in some craps play at MGM. Would rather stay there if I went.

4 General Admission Tickets: East Endzone

To my new gopher friends... I have 4 tickets (general admission) for the Quick Lane Bowl Game... Please let me know if you are interested.

BTW: I am a WMU graduate... I came across these tickets in the hope of WMU playing Minnesota. I read the Gopher Hole and find many of the comments regarding Coach Fleck to be deja vu... Good luck against the Yellow Jackets!

There are some Priceline ExpressDeals right now that are not terrible
-$89 downtown Detroit 3.5 stars-- 12/25 and 12/26

I did not try an 11/26 arrival, but if you keep checking the Priceline Express deals eventually you will find something fairly decent for under $80.

I stayed by the GM HQ once at a Courtyard and walked down to the Greektown area and it was not too bad. I also took a late night stroll and looked at some fo the ruins including the current Gopher team Hotel that was an empty shell at the time. (Book Cadillac)
 

That’s awesome Oak Street. I was leaning towards going with half of my family via Spirit but the older kids are wanting to hang back here. It is a interesting place to visit (more so in the summer)
I didn’t realize Ford just purchased the train station recently and they are turning it into their electric car HQ. The architecture in Detroit is pretty cool. Most of us missed seeing Minneapolis before they tore down on all the cool buildings downtown in the 60’s. Detroit still has a lot of that

Detroit is a city unlike any other.
Not many cities boomed to the size Detroit did only to see their population decline significantly for decades after.
What's left is a culture of historic buildings that have been grandiose enough to stand the toughest of financial times whether through financial viability, or simply for their historic architecture.

To the credit of Detroit, at least they did not tear down most of those classic buildings. In MSP they all would have been vaporized in the early 60s. Then again, Detroit probably could not justify spending the money so tear them all down, so many survived to be re-born. Some (hotels, ballrooms, factories, office towers eventually were too far gone and fell to fire or the wrecking ball.

Detroit is a very strange town. The core is rebounding a bit, but post war suburbs have turned to garbage now. The money moves downtown a bit, but mainly 30-50 miles out.

If I get a good flight on 12/26 early I'll be there, but I am not driving again, unless I talk myself into a Christmas in Chicago.
