Quentin Gardener commits

He seems like a good get, welcome aboard Quentin!

Only decent offer is from Iowa so he can't be good. Kill obviously doesn't know what he's doing recruiting wise. No 5-star recruits yet???

4.44 - and he is only going to get faster! This guy is all good.

I know that I always type this on the posts about 40 times, but there is no way this kid runs a legit 4.44.

Hardly any of the kids at the NFL scouting combine ran it as fast as 4.44. If a HS kid legitimately ran a 4.44 he would look incredibly fast and all we would hear about on his rivals/scouts pages is how fast he is. I'd imagine he ran something closer to a 4.65 (which is still decent for a HS kid).

Seems like more of a possession WR type which should be a good fit for the offense we will be running.

Blasphemy, I'm sure it's legit ;).

Says who? Link?

That was the talk when the old staff was recruiting him and might explain the lack of interest from other schools.

The way Kill is big on grades my guess is that he isn't going to be recruiting many iffy qualifiers.

Well, he is. Arrington Jenkins is another kid with iffy grades.

Looks like another solid addition to Kills first recruiting class. Beating out Iowa on another commit is always good but who knows how hard Iowa was really pursuing, they have 3 wr commits already.

It is funny the whole 4.4 time in HS. When you look at the scout.com report on him they have him as not a downfield threat and his weakness is speed, however rivals has him at a 4.44.

As above, first words on scout "Not a fast receiver..."

I wasn't even referencing supposed 4.44. I just thought he looked pretty quick in that film.

This has nothing to do with Quentin but can you believe PantherHawk sends stuff via facebook to recruits. I thought he was just an ESPN troll. He commented on a status with the Mbakwe story and I wanted to comment with the box score of the Iowa game, but I am not friends with the recruit. I have tried to get him removed from facebook for being a fake profile but to no avail.

He is pretty much on every gopher site that allows him to be. Usually can be found on whatever forums an upcoming gopher opponent has too. On those he pretends to be a gopher fan and acts ridiculous. Something is wrong with him mentally obviously. Someone also somehow discovered some harry potter forums he was posting on where he claimed some funny stuff like one of the books made him cry. His myspace page is also another laugher, but we shouldn't be too mean to people with mental disorders I guess.

Gardner could be a good slot guy with the burner from edina and the big physical Gardner makes for an interesting combo of recievers in this class. Giles Chapman would add a fourth dimension. I nearly forgot about Ge'Shun Harris. I'm liking this group.

I'm curious if Gardner is going to have any impact on whether or not Cameron Brown is still going to be a Gopher. They are relatively the same size and both not known for being speedsters and more possesion type guys. I hope we can keep both of them and this isn't a sign of a future departure ala Goodger/Rohr.

The guy looked pretty fast in the video i saw, and I was pretty surprised scout said that was his knock.

I believe the previous staff was going to only take one of Brown/Gardener. What I don't remember is that if Brown simply committed first and got the 'ship or if the staff preferred Brown to Gardener.

I would add that we will be seeing more wide receivers if we keep similar sets as they ran at NIU in comparison to what we saw especially under Horton, and despite our formerly deep receiver classes, we are now awfully thin at that position.

Gardener took his official visit the week after Brown committed

Dude runs a 4.4 40 yard dash and Scout.com says he isn't a deep threat?

I mean, I know 4.4 isn't blazing for D-1 athletes... but that's still pretty damn fast, isn't it?

Something I noticed long after I replied. It seems the BrewCrew was interested in Brown and Gardener. According to MV's analysis that weekend on FBT Brown was more in competition with Lovett Gibson for his scholarship.

With Crawford-Tufts already in the fold at WR, the staff is looking for a few more (maybe only 2) wide receiver prospects to round out this class and from the list above, may lock up their targets quickly. Whom they take will likely depend on who commits first. Brown has stated multiple times that he may just commit over the weekend and is a strong candidate to be the 15th member of the 2011 class. If he doesn’t commit over the weekend, the spot could go to Gibson, another prospect that is very high on the Gophers and could could on his official visit too. Gibson and Brown are similar WR prospects, with Brown the taller and more physical prospect, so it’s unlikely that the staff would take both. For the “slot” or third WR prospect, Coach Brewster and Watson will have to battle other teams to land Gardner or Coby – either of whom would be an outstanding get for the staff.

So there you have it a happy ending out of September's misery.

I'm all for happy endings!

4.4 is blazing for a D-1 athlete. If he really ran a 4.4 he would be one of the fastest WRs in the Big 10.

I think it would probably make more sense to question whether or not the kid really ran a 4.4. In all liklihood, he run's a 40 closer to 4.6.
