Marquis clearly shows that he has not played the position for four years. His accracy on the move is not very good. His judgement taking sacks is also poor. Shortell also shows that he isn't ready for the big time just yet.

I expect they will play both and when one steps up we'll have a firm starter. Both have great potential and both seem to take to coaching well. It'll be an interesting watch.

Go Gophers!

Once again Gray looked at his first read, tucked and ran. Shortell is the more accurate passer and Gray is no D. Robinson. Just watch next week.

No Controversy. Gray is the QB. The offense was not the problem tonight.

Stan is right, it's a no brainer that Gray is the QB. NDSU had 2 weeks to prepare for Gray and they did a great job at it. They weren't expecting Shortell to be in the game that much and that's why he had some minor success at first

Shortell is not more accurate. They are even. Both are very inaccurate.
Shortell is not better at reading coverage. Both are one read guys right now.
Shortell can't run. Gray can.

That being said, I'd play Shortell.
Gray can move to WR, and this coaching staff refuses to call a game to gray's strength anyways. At least Shortell could have better WRs potentially.

Shortell's 10 play 95 yard scoring drive was 10 straight running plays.

People are saying he was better because he threw for some bigger pass plays or something. I really don't know what they're thinking, but Gray is without a doubt the top QB on our team. If Kill wants to mix them up like that sure, but when the game was on the line like that it was an idiotic move to put Shortell in

There is no controversy. They will both continue to play QB and starting tonight both will get on the field at the same time.

What game were you watching? Granted, the defense was worse but our quarterbacks were 9/20, 124 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. Against a 1-AA school.

Shortell at QB and Gray at WR > Gray at QB and Shortell on the bench.

I was watching the same game you were. Minnesota was running efficiently and punted once. We have no offensive line when it comes to pass protection. Shortell would get killed back there if he played the entire game. Gray gives the offense a chance with his legs.

Still not sold on that. I can't believe how bad you people underestimated NDSU. That was a good team and the coaches had them prepared for Gray. Gray has made some huge leaps in his first 4 games at QB and he's only going to get better. Everyone wants instant results but that's not going to happen. We're not an Alabama or LSU. We're a rebuilding program that is running it's 5th different offense and 4th different defense in 5 years.

Agree to disagree. I think many on this board vastly overrated Gray's ability at WR. Watch the games from last year. He is a poor
route runner and racked up a majority of his numbers in garbage time. He an McKnight are above average when it comes to fade
patterns and jump balls, but neither is a even close to a marginal route runner.

Gray will start and Shortell will come in. When one demonstrates they can produce they will be THE man. I'm betting it's Gray, but the odds are much shorter than they were a week ago. Kill cannot live w/a QB that continues to make poor decisions.

He also will not stand for McKnight publicly showing up the QB when he misses McKnight in the open.

If you guys think Gray and Shortell are on the same level, wake up. Shortell basically threw one bad pass, but that was with the game on the line and NDSU knowing we would be passing. Not saying Shortell was perfect either, but the best chance to win is with him. Sure Gray can run the ball on occasion, but that's what running backs are for. For all of you sticking up for Gray, tell me this... why would the coaching staff play Shortell at all? They definitely know the difference between the two, but they've invested too much time into Gray. And I just don't think Coach Kill is the type of person to abandon a good person like Gray. If we had a great defense, I wouldn't mind Gray starting, and running for 100 yards a game. But since we can't stop anything on defense, we need a passing QB.

Gray is not a passer......,,

at all. If you're gonna play him there.....run some option of something to get him to the edge with head of steam. HE CAN'T THROW

Thank god more people are waking up to the fact that Gray is a horrendous passer. The dude can run though

I know what you guys are saying, but I still think he is the best option for our offense at this point.

I'd love to see Shortell at QB. I question some of his decision making, but he is young. I would love to see what he could do with Marqueis Gray and Da'jon Mcknight as his 1 and 2 receivers. If they play Shortell, but don't get Gray in the game, then I'd rather see Gray at QB. He is too good of an athlete to have on the bench.

But he gives us no chance with his arm.

As I said on a differnt thread. Shortell starts and we lose, probably. When Shortell was in the game our defense backed off the line of scrimmage and had to respect the pass. With Grey as QB there is no pass threat and we stack 8-9 in the box. The series with Shortell as QB in the 1st half, you drive 95 yards without even throwing a pass. That is what happens when the defense has to back off and respect to pass.

It is a work in progress, no dobut. What did Terrelle Pryor look like throwing the ball 4 games into his career? It is my belief that if
Gray is getting better throwing the ball. He really was not given a chance to throw it tonight.

And there you have it...

Gray has had plenty of chances. He looks at one receiver, then tucks the ball and tries to run. Give Shortell an even field, meaning start him for a game and see what he can do. Putting him in when the offense is sputtering and when we need a come from behind isn't the best situation for Shortell. Shortell's first series, where they ran 10+ straight times, do you think they did it against 8 or 9 in the box, or against 7? If Gray was in there, heck, I'd stack 9 in the box too.

Stan, I would agree with you if he was a freshman. Unfortunately for us, he's a junior and has 20 games left in his college career.

With the pitiful offensive line play, I don't think it is going to matter much which QB is back there. They haven't even faced a great defensive line yet, but they will in the Big Ten. This offensive line will get one or both of these QB's injured.

Might as well let Gray run for his life. Maybe something will come out of it during Big Ten play? lol
