Andy Moritko, a 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound wide receiver/defensive back for Totino-Grace, helped lead the Eagles to the Class 5A semifinals. Moritko, a three-sport athlete, was named to the Star Tribune and KARE-11 All-Metro teams and Associated Press, St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minnesota Vikings All-State squads. GopherHole.com recently caught up with Moritko to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Moritko attended several Gopher home games this year, where his father, Jeff, played after a high school career at Minneapolis Edison. He attended camps at Minnesota, Air Force and North Dakota State this summer.

Moritko caught 23 passes for 313 yards and seven touchdowns this season, helping the Eagles to an 11-2 record, losing to eventual state champion Eden Prairie.

Moritko, who is expected to move to tight end or linebacker in college, talked to GopherHole.com recently about the latest on his recruitment.

GH: What is the latest on your recruitment right now?

Moritko: It has been about the same with all the schools and everything. I am hearing a little bit from Western Michigan. South Dakota State, I took a visit there. I liked it there.

GH: What offers do you have right now?

Moritko: Air Force and South Dakota State.

GH: Do you have any plans for the next couple of weeks?

Moritko: Not yet. Probably Northern Iowa and maybe the U of M.

GH: What are you hearing from the Gophers?

Moritko: Preferred walk-on for now

GH: Is that something that interests you or would you prefer a scholarship?

Moritko: They said that anything can happen in January. Right now, it would be as a preferred walk-on.

GH: You had a great year and were named to the Associated Press, St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minnesota Vikings All-State. That has to make you feel really good about your season?

Moritko: It is really good to look back and see what we really accomplished as a team.

GH: What was the experience like being honored at halftime of the Minnesota Vikings’ game versus New Orleans as a member of their All-State team?

Moritko: It was really awesome to be out on the field. It was really, really cool. To see all the people watching was really cool.

GH: Have you talked to the Gophers about coming down for a visit?

Moritko: Yes. Possibly in January.
