Sophomore Andre Wallace Hearing Gophers, Cyclones and Others
Wallace is yet another 2014 Minnesota prep who the Gophers are targeting.

Andre Wallace, a 6-foot sophomore guard from Edne Prairie, is yet another standout player from the Class of 2014. That class also features standouts Tyus Jones of Apple Valley, Rashad Vaughn from Cooper and DeLaSalle’s Reid Travis. GopherHole.com recently caught up with Wallace to learn the latest on his recruitment.
Wallace is averaging 14.7 points per game this season. He has scored in double figures in 15 of 20 games and has four games of 20 or more points. Wallace had helped lead the Eagles to a 15-5 start.

Gopher Hole: Obviously, you have to be very pleased with the way that you are playing so far as a team?
Andre Wallace: Yes, I am. It has taken us a minute to get our chemistry going, but our players are starting to finally get it. We are really young, so it has taken us a minute, but we are coming along.
Gopher Hole: You lost a lot of players from a team that made it to the Class AAAA title game. Did it take some time to get to know each other since you have so many guys who really didn’t play a lot last year?
Andre Wallace: It is. We lost 12 seniors and those guys really got all the minutes. We have like two returning and one of them didn’t even play, so it is kind of tough, but we are coming out and getting it.
Gopher Hole: How about your own individual play? How pleased are you with your performance so far?
Andre Wallace: I always think that I could do better than what I am doing. I think that I came out strong and my team always gives me the confidence to shoot the ball and it has worked out.
Gopher Hole: What things have you been really working on to continue to improve yourself as a player?
Andre Wallace: I have been putting up shots. Coach has me getting my form ready. Catch and shoot. Wherever I catch the ball, I have to let go. If it’s two feet, he’s telling me to pull it. He really gives me the confidence to do what I do. I owe a lot to him.
Gopher Hole: I know that it is early being only a sophomore, but what schools are you starting to hear from right now?
Andre Wallace: I got a letter from Nebraska-Omaha. Iowa State has come to see me a couple of times. Tubby Smith has watched me. I got a questionnaire from NDSU and I’m hearing from Creighton.
Gopher Hole: Are you hearing much from the Gophers? I know that Coach Smith watched you play against DeLaSalle.
Andre Wallace: He can’t really talk to me, but he talked to my mom and coach and basically said he likes me, but I have to get a lot stronger, so that is something that I am going to be working on this offseason.
Gopher Hole: What are you doing AAU-wise?
Andre Wallace: I am hoping to go to Net Gain.
Gopher Hole: What other things do you want to work on besides your strength this summer?
Andre Wallace: I just want to continue working on my jumper and get a little pull-up game working. If I can get that working, I wouldn’t have people stopping me.
Gopher Hole: I don’t know if you watch a lot of college basketball, but did you have a favorite team growing up?
Andre Wallace: I have always been a Duke fan. I love Duke. I originally choose them when I was like six because my favorite color was blue, but I have grown up learning how they play and all that and I got to like them.
