Rashad Vaughn, a 6-foot-6 rising senior guard is ranked as the number eleven player in the Class of 2014, according to ESPN. GopherHole.com caught up with Vaughn Sunday evening at Bloomington Jefferson to learn the latest on his recruitment, where he will play his senior season and summer plans.
Gopher Hole: What things are you really working on this summer to continue to improve yourself as a player?
Rashad Vaughn: Try to get more efficient in everything. Working on becoming a smarter player. Working hard on every aspect of my game. Just trying to get better at everything.
Gopher Hole: What plans do you have this summer for individual and college camps?
Rashad Vaughn: I am going to the Kevin Durant (in Union, New Jersey) camp, the LeBron James (Las Vegas) Camp and the Reebok (Philadelphia) Camp.
Gopher Hole: Are you going to play in all three events with D1 Minnesota in July? (the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis July 10-14, the Summer Classic at Bloomington Jefferson July 18-21 and the adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas July 24-28.) Do you know yet?
Rashad Vaughn: No. I don’t know for sure yet.
Gopher Hole: Are you going to play with them for any of the events or are you working out what other plans you are going to have this summer?
Rashad Vaughn: I am still working on that.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your high school plans? Where have you visited so far?
Rashad Vaughn: Findlay and La Lumiere. I am trying to get down to Huntington Prep and that is.
Gopher Hole: Are you still leaning towards playing out of state next year or has that been decided yet?
Rashad Vaughn: Yes, it has been decided. I am playing out of state.
Gopher Hole: Do you have a favorite yet or is it hard to know until you visit all of them?
Rashad Vaughn: Yes, it is hard to know. I have to sit down with my family and figure out where I am going to go.
Gopher Hole: Huntington has one of your buddies, Josh Perkins. Is that something that would make you look at that school pretty hard?
Rashad Vaughn: We’ve talked about playing in college together, so I would have to look at that stronger to just get that relationship on the court earlier.
Gopher Hole: You had some success with the Wisconsin Playground Elite, but didn’t quite make it to the Peach Jam. Was it hard to leave them or were you just looking for different opportunities?
Rashad Vaughn: It was hard going out to Wisconsin, so my parents just decided just to play somewhere in-state or just do camps.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your recruitment? Where does that stand on that?
Rashad Vaughn: I’m still wide open right now. I am looking to narrow my list probably at the end of the summer, so I am still wide open right now.
Gopher Hole: Have you even thought about when you might try to decide on a school? Would you sign in the early period or would you wait until April?
Rashad Vaughn: Probably April. Whenever it feels right, but we are leaning towards April.
Gopher Hole: Obviously, Minnesota has a new staff with Coach Pitino taking over? What has been your relationship with the new staff?
Rashad Vaughn: I have a good relationship with Coach Pitino, really the whole coaching staff I have a good relationship with. I talk to Coach Pitino a lot. I went up there and visited them a couple of times, so I have a good relationship with all of them.
Gopher Hole: I know that a lot of Minnesota fans would love to see you play here. Would the fact that you are moving away to a prep school, would that hurt Minnesota’s chance?
Rashad Vaughn: No. Not at all. It is still the same as me staying. They still have the same chance.
Gopher Hole: What would it mean to play for the homestate school?
Rashad Vaughn: It would mean a lot. The fan base is wonderful. The coaching staff. My family and friends would be here to watch me, so it would mean a lot.
