Blake Weber, a 6-1, 215-pound linebacker/running back from Prior Lake (MN) High, participated at the Minnesota Gopher football camp and is hoping to earn a scholarship offer from the home state school.
Gopher Hole caught up with Weber after the Lakers’ season-opening win over Eagan to learn the latest on his recruitment.
Gopher Hole: It was a nice way to get the season started with a nice win at home. What was the feeling about the opening game?
Blake Weber: All the guys are really pumped. They are excited. The coaches prepared us well. We knew that we should win the game. Came out. Did our job.
Gopher Hole: How about your performance? You scored a touchdown and had a two-point conversion and played both sides of the field.
Blake Weber: I played alright. I have had better games. The line blocked well. Ran well. Overall good game.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on the recruitment right now?
Blake Weber: Just went to a bunch of camps this summer. They told me to send out my senior film and most schools said that they would get back to me mid-October.
Gopher Hole: When we had talked previously, you had mentioned the interest in the Gophers. Have you heard much from them recently?
Blake Weber: They invited me to the game against UNLV and all their home games.
Gopher Hole: Were you able to make it to the season opener or did you have a walk-through?
Blake Weber: No. We had a walk-though and then a team dinner.
Gopher Hole: Are you planning on going to the next couple of home games?
Blake Weber: Yes. Definitely.
Gopher Hole: Have you thought about going to any other college games?
Blake Weber: Not really. I haven’t really thought that much about that because we have practice every Saturday morning, so it would be tough to go out to the Dakotas.
Gopher Hole: Is it tough that many of your friends are deciding on where they are going to college, while you are still waiting to send out game film? Is that tough on you to not know where you are going?
Blake Weber: Kind of. Yes. It puts a lot of pressure on me on the field to perform well.
Gopher Hole: You have a good relationship with former teammate and current Gopher freshman walk-on Nick Hart. You have said that you would love to play with him. What have been his impressions of the school so far and have you been talking to him about Minnesota?
Blake Weber: He has been telling me that he loves it. He is practicing well and he just loves it.
Gopher Hole: What other schools are you hearing from besides Minnesota right now?
Blake Weber: Northern Illinois, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Drake and Iowa State.
