Consistent PG play was an issue the last four years whenever Al Nolen was not on the court. Coach Tubby Smith and the Gopher staff have been well aware of this and their recruiting efforts over the last two years have attempted to address this. Last year it was the late addition of Maverick Ahanmisi, and this year the Gophers signed highly-touted Andre Hollins and Julian Welch from the junior college ranks. But competition is a good thing and St. Louis product Kendal Shell hopes to add competition to the backcourt as a walk-on.

Shell brings a self-described “passion for defense” as well as an incredible perfect SAT score to Minnesota. Originally slated as a preferred walk-on at Pepperdine University, the 6-2, 185lb two-time all-conference high school guard is excited to be on campus and having an opportunity to learn from and compete for Coach Smith.

GopherHole caught up with the eloquent Shell to learn about his path to Minnesota as well as his expectations for this upcoming season.
