Frank Ragnow, a 6-6, 300-pound senior tackle/defensive end from Chanhassen, was named KARE 11 Sports and Minneapolis Star Tribune All-Metro and was chosen to the Associated Press and Minnesota Vikings' All-State teams. The top available Minnesota player has visited Minnesota, Arkansas and Florida State and is considering several possible visits in January. Gopher Hole caught up with Ragnow after Chanhassen's 66-51 basketball over Andover to learn the very latest on his recruitment.

Gopher Hole: We had talked about you taking two more official visits. Had you had a chance to set those up yet?

Frank Ragnow: This past week, I haven't really talked to anyone. I just kind of relaxed, but I have got phone calls tomorrow that I need to make and sit down to see what weekends work because I don't want to miss basketball.

Gopher Hole: Have you even narrowed down among those four schools (Wisconsin, Ohio State, Miami and Ole Miss) which ones you want to visit or is it still open?

Frank Ragnow: It is still open, but I'll be narrowing it down soon.

Gopher Hole: When you do that will you be basically narrow down your list of seven schools to five?

Frank Ragnow: Yes. A top five. Two officials that I make and the three that I have already made.

Gopher Hole: Have you thought any more about when you are even going to try to make your announcement?

Frank Ragnow: I think that I am going to talk to my school and try to figure out a day when we can make the announcement.

Gopher Hole: Did you get any good gifts for Christmas?

Frank Ragnow: I got an electric razor. I hate shaving normally, but an electric razor is nice.

Gopher Hole: How relieved will you be to finally get all this done?

Frank Ragnow: I just can't wait to be a normal kid again. Once that is over, I won't get all the calls. A lot of my friends bother me about going "D1" and everything, but once that is over, I think it will help a lot.

Gopher Hole: A lot of your friends who aren't athletes probably already know where they are going to college. Is that tough for you?

Frank Ragnow: I have got friends who are going to Minnesota, who are trying to push me and I have got friends who are applying to Florida State who are trying to push me. They are trying to get their little input, thinking that I am going to base my decision on that.

Gopher Hole: Have you been watching the various bowl games?

Frank Ragnow: I didn't get to watch the Minnesota game, which bummed me out since we had a basketball game at Augsburg. Otherwise, I haven't been able to watch much.

Gopher Hole: Are you planning on watching Florida State when they are on?

Frank Ragnow: I'll watch Florida State.

I hope Ragnow stays here, but FSU has a heck of a program. If we get Ragnow over FSU, that will say something about Kill's program.

His choices will come down to Minnesota, Arkansas and Florida St.

Has Frank mentioned academics as a big factor in his decision making? Correct me if I'm wrong, but FSU's academic reputation is not all that great. Of course he may solely have his eyes on the NFL.

Neither FSU nor Arkansas is as good a university as Minnesota -- academically speaking.

And if you believe Deadspin, which I do, the football players don't go to class.

Dang! It's gonna be tough to beat out the National Champion for Frank. I hope the Gophers can do it.

Go Gophers!!

Can somebody please explain how Florida State can garner 29 commitments to date while they are only losing 15 players to graduation (without Frank)?!? Hopefully he notes that the cupboard at FSU is far from bare with 7 commits along the OL this year and 3 redshirt frosh next year as well.

Easy, almost all their graduating seniors were on double scholarship! :)

As is the case with any loaded team that wins the national championship, I'm sure they'll have a number of early entries into the NFL draft.
