Dwayne “D.J.” Foreman, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound, shined this weekend as a member of the Boo Williams AAU program. He scored in double figures in all five games and averaged 16.6 points and seven rebounds per contests.
GopherHole.com caught up with Foreman Sunday to find out the latest on his recruitment, which includes an offer from Minnesota.
Gopher Hole: How pleased were you with how well things went with the Boo Williams AAU program this spring?
Foreman: I am really excited about how things went this spring. We played so good in the beginning, that everyone was coming for us in the end, so it was hard. I think that we have enough wins to make it to the Peach Jam, so if we can get to the gym and practice and stuff, I think that we can make a run at the Peach Jam.
Gopher Hole: How much do you think that playing against the EYBL competition where you are playing against some of the top players in the country at your position has helped you improve as a player?
Foreman: I think that it has improved my game a lot because every possession, I can’t let down. The second that I let down, my opponent is going to win that battle, so every possession I have to give 100%. Coach Boo and the assistant coaches are yelling at me every play to let me know that.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your college recruitment right now?
Foreman: Actually, tomorrow (Monday), I am taking an unofficial to Minnesota. The coaches who have called me are Pittsburgh, Providence, Miami, Alabama. Two weeks after we played in Hampton (for the Boo Williams Invitational), Kentucky called my dad and my advisor and then a week later, Kansas gave me a personal letter. Those are the schools that I know of so far.
Gopher Hole: How many offers do you have right now? Do you still keep track or is it hard to?
Foreman: No. I know that it is more than 10 or 15.
Gopher Hole: That has to make you feel pretty proud that all the hard work that you have put in is really paying off.
Foreman: It is making me really proud that it has all paid off, but I use that to help me in the gym, too when I work out really hard to let me know that I need to keep working, because I am not there yet. I’m not committed and I am not at the school yet, so I am just going to keep working hard until I get there.
Gopher Hole: What things you have been working on the most to try to continue to improve yourself as a player?
Foreman: I need to keep working on my rebounding, my jumper and my help defense. Those are the main things that I think I need to work on.
Gopher Hole: You are visiting Minnesota Monday. What do you know about Minnesota?
Foreman: I don’t know too much about Minnesota. I know that they made it to the NCAA Tournament. The person who is the assistant coach there, Kimani Young, he was my coach when I was in fifth grade. That is really all I know.
Gopher Hole: Have you kept in touch with Kimani over the years?
Foreman: Recently when I played in L.A., he calls me once a week. To let me know “How are you doing and stuff like that about my grades and to keep working.”
Gopher Hole: You attended Massanuttan Military Academy this past year, where are you going to be this upcoming season?
Foreman: This upcoming year, I might be attending Carlisle School with a 7-footer on our team (2016 big man Thon Maker).
Gopher Hole: What do you know about their program?
Foreman: I just know that they have a terrific freshman. That is all I know about the program.
Gopher Hole: What is going to be the main thing that makes you pick School A over School B or C?
Foreman: I think the thing that is going to make me pick a college is a good program, a good coach, a good school and any school that is going to give me the freedom to play my game.
Gopher Hole: Do you come from a basketball family?
Foreman: I come from an athletic family. The only person who really played basketball was my father. My mom played a lot of sports and my uncles all played football. I come from athletic genes.
