Proposed $20M Surly Brewery site less than a mile from TCF

I know a lot of people really like Surly and as a MN brewery I hope they always do really well. That being said, those "Hoppy" beers like Summit and Surly are not my thing. They just taste too scratchy to me and I feel like I should have a water chaser. For MN brews... I guess I am a Schells guy.

It took me a long time to get into hoppy beers. For Surly, have you tried CynicAle? My wife isn't a big hops person but she likes it a lot.

I hope they sell plastic growlers. Otherwise I can see a lot of smashed glass (and fans) making a path from the brewery to the stadium.

Schell's Brewery, New Ulm, Herman the German, and the Kaiserhoff truly thank you, Schnauzer. :drink: :drink: :drink:

GoAUpher, I will keep an eye out for CynicAle and will look forward to giving it a try. I have friends that really go out of their way for Surly and another that simply refers to Summit as "Mother's milk." I know it is just a matter of my beer taste and no slam on the product... which is doing really well.

And yes, it has been a whole two months since I made my last trek to Schells Brewery and it already seems too long. I had my college graduation dinner at the Kaiserhoff with my then girlfriend, now wife - back in the day. I'm not from New Ulm but did spend a lot of time there growing up.

Let me add Johnson Park, the Glockenspiel, Flandreu park, and Niklasson's athletic :)

Will it be ready by Oct 13? Probably not.

In the meantime, I am waiting for Summit Saga to hit the stores up here.

A tailgate at the Surly Brewery?

I'm thinking if they had a big parking lot they could put up big screens, charge admission, have some beer tents/beer trailers, and basically make it freaking awesome if they wanted to.

This is GREAT! I grew up in a small town just west of New Ulm and got all my gear at Niklasson's! Your post made me think of Vogel arena, the Lamplighter, Rodney's Tavern, BochFest and "New Ulm Days" F.K.A HeritageFest. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Gentlemen!

Holy crap! If they can work with the U to get the buses to stop along the transit route (1 block from there) it could be party central.

A bus that comes to the campus comes with in a block of the site? That seems like a no-brainer to add a game-day stop. Everybody wins. The U gets Surly Brewing promoting Gopher gameday. Surly Brewing gets a gets great publicity, and Gopher fans get a party. They could have tailgating for those who want to party and then go to the game, and then have big screens for those who want to party and watch the game there.

It's literally on the transitway. The train will stop about a block from the site as well, and it's about a 15 minute walk to the stadium. Seriously no-brainer if they were down to party. Which I hope they would be.

How did the old Schells radio commercial go?

Auggie Schlitz says you only go around once in life.
Auggie Schell says, if you only go around once in life, make sure the other guy is buying.

Teague should be all over this!

I would love some Furious before the game! Plus public transit to and from the stadium, keeping drunks off the road. Brilliant!!

I'm with Schnauzer a enjoy a refreshing Pils. I'll grab an ale but those others you can keep.

This seems too good to be true. If this ends up happening, and Surly ties in some gameday tailgating promos/beer trailers/etc. it's a match made in heaven for me. Fueling up on factory-direct Furious before games, then stumbling down to The Bank? YES PLEASE.

If they can work out some kind of arrangement for a tailgating/party site, this could solve some of the game-day atmosphere issues discussed in another thread. If the people at the U are smart, they will work on some kind of a tie-in. (I don't know if a college team can have an "official" beer - I know HS teams cannot have bars or liquor stores sponsoring games on the radio, unless its some type of "salute" ad that doesn't mention drinking, per se.)

I love it if we can park at the brewery, pregame and post game and then bus it to the stadium. Best of all worlds for those of us out of towners who aren't set up for full tailgating.

If their parking lot is big enough...maybe some outside bands, etc. in the beer garden for pre/post game.

I'm sure the city of mpls will try and screw this up...here is hoping they dont.
