Not Gopher related. Slow day. NBC showing the England Wales Rugby match. Brutal and makes no sense in my opinion.

Rugby is an odd game, I agree.

But it absolute is a game played by men.

Men who may need memory care facilities in their 50's, but men nonetheless.

Woman play it too. Not at the level of the game on NBC right now I believe. But yes you're correct for the most part.

Excellent game when understood. All players must have all skills to a high level. No "specialists" like all of our football players. All players must be able to tackle, run, run long distances, lateral, catch, kick, think, etc. They have no more head injuries than our players have precisely because their game does not wear helmuts and an inch does not matter at all. No first downs.

Rugby is the sport to watch if you want to actually see form tackling. The lack of helmets and pads means that these players can’t just launch at each other and call it “tackling”.

I played DII football and after my senior season was over some Rugby Club players were trying to get me to play with them because I didn't have to worry about football anymore. I told them I got beat up wearing pads so in no way did I want to play without pads.

The one guy was telling me that nobody ever got hurt that bad playing rugby. The next time I saw him he had crutches and a big cast on his leg. Looks like a very tough sport to me... maybe the Gophers should be scouting more rugby players???

They got one Aussie in Fa'alele who was a young rising star in the rugby world when he was discovered. They have Crawford the kicker too.

One major difference that matters significantly is in rugby, since stopping forward progress is much less important, you're supposed to hit with your upfield shoulder (read: head behind the opposing player). I played rugby for a semester in undergrad, and let me say from experience, you learn that one very quickly!
