Problem with this team

exactly, i still thinks he takes to many shots that he decided to take before the possession, sometimes it works for him (tonight) but it seems like it is often the other way around.

Given his shooting percentage, I'm not sure where you get this idea.

Supply of Barf Bags

WHERE ALL DA WESTBROOK DOUBTERS NOW!!!

As long as there's a good supply of barf bags around when he talks about himself, he can shoot the lights out every game.

Seriously though, I'm not sure if anyone heard him on the wcco postgame but has this guy got an ego or what? I think all good players need that don't get me wrong .. but honestly. :pig::pig::pig:

IAM4Goldy and I were listening together on our way home and I turned to him and said "Westbrook is one guy that certainly isn't lacking in confidence!"

That was one heck of an interview!

Go Gophers!!

Lol .. I was with my daughter after and caught the postgame as we had to run out real quick and thought the same thing. We thought it had to do with the Blake Hoffarber article in the Pioneer Press and how he was the new go to guy for the Gophers. Great game and I'm happy for him. Let's hope he can keep it up.

What was said? I didn't get a chance to hear it.

I wish I would have heard the interview. Westbrook was tough to handle last night. He is fearless attacking the rim and taking a big shot. It has to be really difficult in Coach Smith's two platoon system for an offensive minded player. Touches are going to be fewer, you're going to get yanked when you're hot. Just not easy.

What was said? I didn't get a chance to hear it.

Basically, he put himself on the same level as Battle, and said that while Penn State only has 1 great player, Minnesota has lots of great players "like me." He did come off as a little self-serving, but, I can't blame him too much. It was a huge game for him, and he was excited.

To my recollection, and it was a fairly quick interview, he was carrying on about his game, getting his shot, how he and Battle were talking about how it was their time, that he's a good player, there's probably a bit more. Again, he had a great, solid, night, but humility is not his strong suit.

Sorry, I forgot that he talked about his weight loss also and how that's helped/improved his game, being able to get up on his jump shot as well has not having to come out of the game several times due to being winded from carrying the extra weight.

Lawrence Westbrook
On his matchup with Talor Battle:
"Talor is a good player. He gets a lot of respect and love. I don't want to take anything away from him but in the Big Ten there are guys like Damian (Johnson) who doesn't get enough respect. He does a lot of good things. He hit probably two of the biggest shots of the game to seal it up for us. I'm a good player. Sometimes I get overlooked because we play in a different type of system than a lot of other teams. I definitely matched him shot for shot and we got the victory."

On his performance:
"The Big Ten season is where all the men play. A lot of people are saying this and that and questioning our schedule. I look at this time in the Big Ten and the level of competition and you have to step up. You have to play. I have been thinking about these guys a long time. I couldn't even sleep last night. I definitely want to lead by example."

Best season ever?

First of all, I should hope so, he is a senior, but....

this is what concerns me:

Portland- FG 4-13, 3 Pt 1-5, 11 Pts, 4 Reb, 2 Ast, 0 TO, 2 Stl, 26 Min
Texas A & M- FG 1-4, 3 Pt 1-1, 4 Pts, 1 Reb, 0 Ast, 2 TO, 1 Stl, 14 Min (sat 1st half)
Miami- FG 5-11, 3 Pt 2-3, 14 Pts, 3 Reb, 0 Ast, 2 TO, 0 Stl, 30 Min

We lost these 3 winnable games.......

If you're counting on Westbrook to get assists, you're going to be disappointed a whole lot. That's not what he's good at.

Since you're What-Iffing, if the Gophers W Portland game, they play West Va (not Texas A&M).

The team (not Westbrook) played poorly (or sub-par, if U prefer) those 3 games. Playing better now.

Nope. Too bad too. Sort of my point.

He was recruited for and out there for only one reason, to score. If he isn't taking shots then no one is. If you don't want a scorer with confidence, you must have been thrilled during the Monson years.

Not excusing his poor performance in Anaheim, but he was coming off a bad case of the stomach flu -- that stuff can linger for awhile.

Also, on a team that struggles to score during stretches, LW is probably the only guy who can consistently create shots for himself and finish in the lane. He has his flaws like everyone else, but he's vital to the team's success.

"Also, on a team that struggles to score during stretches, LW is probably the only guy who can consistently create shots for himself and finish in the lane."

Bingo. The Gophers' inability to finish at the rim is the thing that gnaws at me the most about this squad. Thank goodness in Lawrence we have a guy that can do it consistently. I consider him more of a scorer than a shooter (and he's a good shooter), and despite his lack of size he certainly has shown the ability to make creative shots when he's around the basket. That's what scorers do. Non-scorers just throw the ball up toward the basket and hope it goes in.

Some people get on him Westbook for his lack of humility. Anyways heres a little tidbit from Reusse's article. ............. Willie, now 41, still has the young face and a 6-foot-6 frame that makes it look as though he could walk on the elevated floor and start draining jump shots.

"You're right, I could,'' Burton said.

Nothing wrong with how he played in that Miami game. Did you expect that much against Texas A & M after sitting the first half? And as mentioned already, stomach flu doesn't help.

Alls I am saying...

...is that for this team to go anywhere, LW has to be a consistent player for us. In our 3 losses, he wasn't playing very well. I forgot he had the flu, so that is certainly a mitigating factor. However, in my opinion, if he doesn't show up in games against quality opponents, we lose. And if resorts to one-on-one me-first basketball, we don't go far. There *are* other weapons on this team.

I have said that I love his potential and I agree, he is the best at creating his shot and finishing at the rim. I didn't say he sucked. I just pointed out that in our 3 losses, he had sub-par games. We need him to play well every night or we will lose games against quality teams.

He's a nice player. But he needs to play within the team and be more consistent. I stand by that.
