Pretty neat tradition at UNLV

From browsing the UNLV boards, I saw that since Nevada was the 36th state in the US, only players from Nevada are allowed to wear the number 36. Minnesota was the 32nd state, and I see that a native Minnesotan (Lamonte Edwards) wears the #32. Is this commonplace, or just coincedence?
