Premium seating

I'm trying to find bright spots, Bruce, and you found one. The arena is gradually getting more empty with each game, might as well improve our seats at the same time if that continues to be the case. After every storm their is sunshine. ...

I also wonder what affect the resurging interest in the TWolves will have on Gopher season tix.

Mine never quite improved as much as I thought they would during the Monson years. At least with the selection process this spring, I will see what is actually available at the time I pick. Should be interesting.

And during every storm- people get soaked.

As long as the downfall is temporary - this indeed is a golden opportunity to move up one's seating.

That's what I like about this whole thing. If I so choose, I have the opportunity to improve my seats. That's an opportunity I haven't had before.

+1000. If Rubio has a long run, this could be the Vikings/Gopher football scenario in terms of shifting fan interest

It will be interesting. The first Timberwolves surge came at about the same time as the Final Four run, so the Gophers didn't suffer a hit. Not the case now.

I'd have to guess there's a fairly good chance now that they postpone it.

I know it's been said in this thread, but I need to pile on.

There is absolutely zero chance they postpone this. They have put a *TON* of effort and money into the communication of this program. If you aren't a season ticket holder, then you aren't seeing the multi-page glossy packages that they've sent out. This is big time stuff. Big time. You don't simply cancel or postpone it. Too much investment. Too much momentum. Too much promised. On top of all that, customers have already made specific monetary investments with the specific intent of slightly improving their priority.

Then I hope they have a good plan for how they are going to market the 5,000 + single game tickets they're going to have for each game. I fear the Barn next year is going to be a morgue.

I find it ironic how certain people constantly complain about two of the major hurdles that keep this program behind the programs of their competitors, namely a practice facility and premium seating revenues.

I don't like paying more than anybody else for tix, but the program needs institutional improvements to stay competitive with all the other schools already utilizing such things.

Amen, brother.

Translation: I'm going to complain when the U wants more money from me for my seats (if I so choose) even though more preferred seating/$$$ (in theory) will help the overall program, but at the same time I'm going to demand that we must have a practice facility.

Yes, our seats are among the highest priced in the B1G, but the bottom line is the U hasn't upped the prices much (per ticket price) in the last few years. I'm neither surprised nor bitter at the U for implementing a preferred seating plan more in line with the rest of the B1G schools. If we're going to "keep up with the Jones'" with regards to needing a practice facility, then the same thing applies with preferred seating.

Can you show me somewhere in the GopherPoints deal where it says for sure that we are going to go big time with our basketball program as a result of the premium seating program? I don't see it. I don't see this as being a practice facility fund. I see this as being a general fund for Gopher sports. For all I know- it could go to the baseball stadium or the rowing team or something else I don't care about.

I may have missed this in their pitch- so if they have clearly stated this- I'd be interested to see it. That's my main point- this program has to be attached to a clear vision for long term success. And that's coming from someone that is going to pay the premium to get the better seats.

Actually, this is what it says:

"The ongoing financial challenges facing Gopher Athletics require that department officials consider all possible revenue sources in order to provide student-athletes and fans with the best possible experience, while at the same time helping the U of M maintain a strong, broad-based and fiscally responsible athletics program. Gopher Points will help us address the cost of keeping our teams competitive at a national level and improving our facilities."

Based on that, Gopher Points funds can be used for anything, including golden sneakers.

Thank you. This means we are putting our money to be used at the discretion of Joel Maturi until further notice.

That's why the specific donations I've made were to the Williams Arena Enchancement Fund. It's where you get the most Gopher Points, too, so that makes it even better.

They screwed up the first couple donations I made and didn't put it in the Williams Arena Enchancement Fund. It was put into a different fund that wasn't specifically for basketball (Williams/men's basketball capital campaign). I had to call them to get it corrected, which they did. My issue isn't with preferred seating. My issue is that they put the donations where the donors intended them to go. If I hadn't checked my Gopher Points, I'd be short about 10 Gopher Points now.

Pretty darn important they get that correct considering the Williams Arena Enchancement Fund is the best way to improve our seat ranking.

It's kind of scaring me how much I'm agreeing with you in this thread.

It will result in same day ticket sales costing less than season tickets. Which already happened during the Big Ten/ACC challenge a few years ago.

Actually, this year buying a season ticket package cost about 10% less than it would have to pay face value for individual tickets. First time I remember that being the case.

Of course that won't be the case next year

Interesting... Was this user error? When you go on-line you have the option/s to donate to the Williams Arena Enhancement Fund or The Men's Basketball Scholarship Fund. I almost made this error when donating on-line.

I'm about 350-400 (seat rank) behind you guys, since 1992-93. Just glad to see my final seat rank means I'll get chairbacks. There are 6,200 chairbacks and I'm right around 5,100.

I hope you're willing to pay for those chair backs. I'm not very confident that any good cheap backed seats will remain when it's my turn. And by cheap, I'm talking $250 extra.

Just hoping a lot of people in front of me don't renew.

Bruce, anyone, do you think the upper deck end-court chairbacks (Sections 201 & 213, rows 1-4?) will be some of the first seats to get gobbled up? Those are only $100 donation, and I think they're really good seats. Just one of the many sections I'm looking at. Budgeting for the $250's but with my seat ranking have accepted the fact I might have to buck up to the $400's if there's not much left to choose from.
