In the case of ties, the program with more NCAA appearances is ranked higher, and if still tied, the one to more recently appear in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gophers have some work to do.

Does this exclude first four wins? I would think first four wins should be excluded

Excluding first four games Arizona state moves down a category. They’ve been to the round of 32 twice not 4 times. Anyone else?
Texas would move down a category too but still would be in your solid category
 

So since 2000, there are multiple schools who average more wins per year in the tourney than we have had in total during that stretch?

Also, i know that has been talked to death, but we fired a coach at the end of the year in which we recorded half of the tournament wins we have had this century.
 


36-2 drubbing at the hands of the Badgers: a combination of Wisconsin excellence and Minnesota pathos. Conversely, from 1971-1997 we won three Big Ten championships and it was 12-0 in NCAA tourney wins (counting the third place game win in the ‘72 game tourney). Probation and/or the smaller field deprived us of berths in 1973; 1975; 1977; 1978; 1980 and 1981. Perhaps there 3-5 more wins from this cohort. Time for Niko to engineer the next generational flip.

A win in the First 4 (At Larges) is going to be against a much tougher team than a #15 or #16 Seed in the Round of 64. Do you want to exclude those too?

Teams in the First 4 are Top 50ish. They count IMO. I think every year 1 of the teams has gone on to the Round of 32,

No. The logic wasn’t about the win being less valuable because of a first four opponent. the logic was about a win advancing to the round of 32 is more important than a win advancing to a round of 64

there are only 2 teams with multiple first four victories. It isn’t more than 2 wins for anyone.

But if Medved won a first four game 4 years in a row and then lost in the round of 64 I would have a tough time accepting the argument that we win in the tourney every year having never been to the round of 32…if that makes sense

Well, at least we have Rutgers and DePaul to look down on (although you couldn't say that about DePaul in the 20th century). I don't think Rutgers will be very good next year either. Penn State having more wins than us is pretty embarrassing although I think we'll finish ahead of them next season too. They're losing a lot of players from this year's team.

You have to give Coyle credit for something. He's not dumb enough to do that (probably not dumb enough to follow it up with sexual harassment charges either).
 

Dang! The truth right there in black and white is painful and embarrassing.
The bright spot that jumped out at me was St Johns...they were behind us just two years ago.
There is hope we can climb too!

However, to steal a line from <Some Guy>, this thread is titled "Power 5 NCAA Victories Since 2000" not "Times Power 5 Teams Advanced to the Round of 64, Round of 32, Sweet 16 etc".

True. Was just wondering.

Often my case against my position would be to say if someone wants to run an alternate stat differently they should.
I did and it makes hardly any difference.

On a similar line, it would be intersection to see the score if the value of a win doubles each "real" round (play in and round of 64 wins both count as 1). That rewards teams that make deep runs over ones that regularly win in the round of 64 and then lose.

I have no time, unfortunately, or I might attempt that myself.

A good discussion is:
Would you rather be to the elite 8 twice or the round of 32 4 times. Because that yields the same number of wins in this metric

If the other 2 years, when failing to reach the Elite 8 my team was at least in the Field of 68, I would choose that without a doubt.

If they really sucked in the non-Elite 8 seasons, it's more debatable. I think I would hedge towards more consistency under that scenario.

It’s the same as the last 26 years of Illinois football vs Minnesota football.
They have rose bowl and a big ten title but man it would be tough to be their fan
