Postgame Observations

- The playcalling was a little better this game. The best call I thought was the first play of the second half when everyone thought it would be another run on first down, and they went deep. I think that was the first time they passed on first down the entire game.

- Kicking game gets an A + GREAT punting the entire game, all kicks were made and the kickoffs all went through the end zone. Great job!

- WE WERE RIGHT!!!! You know, everyone thinks us keyboard warriors don't know what we are talking about but I think everyone thought the playcalling needed to be better and we ran way too vanilla and predictable of an offense. We all said we needed to balance in more passing with the runs up the middle and we were all right. We were not able to run until we opened it up with some passing.

- Kudos to Fleck for not going for it on 4th down. The cheese was there and he didn't bite. There will be a time to go for it on 4th down but today was not it as you were battling for crucial field position and a miss in our own territory would have been disaster and possibly a loss.

- Walley is going to be a fun player watch develop. He struggled on some plays but you can tell the talent is there where he will eventually become an elite defensive back for us.

- Fleck said afterward this bye comes at a good time as several players are banged up. This next game vs. Nebraska is going to be a big game and we will need to get more players back, such as Sori-Martin and Wright.

-Autman-Bell needs to step it up. He had a nice TD catch but those two drops were huge. He needs to come up with those if he wants to become a next level WR.

- Morgan's talent is there. He had a good game today with a few drops. He was generally right on the money so I think most of his problems stem from the playcalling and schemes more than a miraculous drop in talent.

- This was a gritty, ugly Big Ten kind of game but I thought Fleck outcoached Brohm. I do not think Brohm is a very good coach and Fleck always seems to get this one. His squads are just tougher and play harder than Brohm's. This was a good win for us and as I said earlier, ANY Big Ten road win is a good win!!

I've never heard of a strip sack fumble or a perfect INT read by a safety be referenced as a bailout. LOL.

If you wanted to be sh!tty and refer to INTs like Howden's to end the Penn State game in 2018 (errant pass), I think it's stupid but at least it's logical.

Even if the premise of this guy's post made any sense, how could this win be our ugliest?

We only beat Miami of Ohio by 5 AT home this year. LOL.
In 2019, we only beat South Dakota State by 7 AT home.
In 2019, we only beat GA Southern by 3 AT home (with much flukier circumstances).

We beat an OK Big Ten team on the road. That is NEVER a bad win even if you live in a world where those exist.

Last Gopher drive ending with the FG (which meant nothing more than
a little field position...)

One more 1st down, or TD you ice the game.

You bring Cole Kramer into the game on 1st and 10 to run the Wildcat, letting a good defensive line know within 95% certainty what the play will be. THREE times in a row!

THAT was lunacy.

Yeah, I know we won, but you are just asking for lightning to strike and end up in OT.

That 3 play set cements my opinion of our OC.
It was like Glen Mason was back running the team, hoping to hang on. Just grinning, looking up at the scoreboard.

I am sure we could find plenty of competition for it but it would definitely be a high seed with a good chance of winning in a dumb post tournament bracket.
Can he have more than one dumb post in the tournament because there have been plenty more by him.

Yes, there really were a lot of positives in this game especially for a game played under bad conditions. They've all been mentioned previously so I won't go into them again. The one thing I do wonder is why we haven't seen Ky Thomas since the Colorado game. He played well enough in that game to get some additional playing time.

Yup I don’t understand the Morgan hate at all. Only unfortunate thing with him is that he isn’t the tallest so seems to get a few more batted down by the line.
He played terrible last week and deserved some criticism but he was great today. They left a lot of points on the board with dropped passes and inopportune penalties, but Morgan was good today.

A win by any means ugly or pretty is a win. I'll take it any way that we can!

One more thing, our front 7 has been really strong lately. We are able to stop the run without selling out and it's the primary reason the big plays have stopped. Teams need to dink and dunk to move the ball on us and that's always a good recipe for success.

I'm more tolerant of Morgan missing on long bombs.... especially when they made some of them.

I think they gave themselves some space to operate with them.

OL look much better and pulled of a few stunts at critical times.

Yes but Rutgers did reel off some big runs in the first half...got a little worried...lingering PTSD from the first several games from last year.

My initial thought is he’s being sarcastic….

I hope so, at least.
