Post Game Thread: Gophers Lose Back and Forth Game to Northwestern, Fall to 6-5 as Defense Struggles Again

Wolves can't beat a winning team and gophers can't win a road game

Needs to be changes on defensive side.

And we better have different kicker next year

Occasionally, we see things under PJ that we’ve never seen before today I saw our highest NL player jog for 20 or 30 yards instead of running — right into a DB and fall over. Been watching football for 50 years I’ve never seen anything like it.

You could see he is not 100% obviously hamstring is hurting again

Time to go buy better defensive players and a kicker who can make pressure kicks

Felt like a Jim Wacker defense. Melted butter puts up more resistance. That new DC is clearly in over his head.

And no excuse for the program not to have a serviceable kicker.

I think we have a freshman kicker ready to go not sure why we didn’t roll him out two weeks ago.

Worst defensive game in many years. Just completely unacceptable.

The play of the game was Fleck deciding to kick a FG on 4th and 5 where the chances of making it were like 10%. Everyone but him knew he was going to miss badly.

Lindsey and Perich were fun to watch.

D was bad. Kicking game was bad. Koi had a good game. He almost won it for us. Nice to
have a Malachi Coleman sighting. Tracy with a huge day. Drake looked good. I don’t know why we tried to kick that 48 yard FG. What are we thinking there? To me that was the dagger. Bummed to have DT get hurt again. I feel bad for him. Just so dissappointing today.

Lots of weaknesses on this team. And that's on the coach. We missed two field goals in the game and that was too much. Defense can't be counted on to give up less than 30 a game. We once again completely failed to show up to start the game. I wonder if PJ already inked a deal with Arkansas, because no one on the coaching staff or team seems to have any focus.

Coasting, underperforming. I don’t know, consider stop extending PJ on a yearly basis. Reorganize department headcount if necessary,/reallocate funds to prioritize retaining or hiring proven coordinators and assistants. Something is amiss with recruitment misses, development, prep, in game decisions.

OTOH kudos to David Braun for coming into a difficult spot and doing a pretty good job the last several years.

Feels like this team could be/should be better. Maybe I’m way off base.
