Hey guys - having some computer issues, so these notes are really not edited, but needed to post them before my laptop dies!

DeAndre Mathieu:
On how they got back into the game - Keep fighting, if not for me, for the seniors. The seniors are the ones that kept us fighting and got us back into the game.
On what changed - We started defending, we got some defensive stops that really got us going. Probably one of the best defensive performances if the year.
On playing with 2 fouls in the 1st half - I just wasn't as aggressive, I kind of just showed my hands more to the ref.
On if the TO's got him down - Not really with the to's, more with the contact that was getting them. Coach told me not to worry about that.
I have a lot of family in NYC, but have never been there
It was a lot better than I expected, the non students, they got really loud. We do have the best home court in college basketball.*

Joey King
On what they worked on - Just to slow ourselves down, when we got that under control, things started to go our way
On going to NYC - It's a great experience, Madison so garden is one of the best arenas in college basketball*

Maverick Ahanmisi
It would mean a lot to go back to NYC
On what's changed with his PT: Honestly, I don't know, I've been practicing the same way all year, the ball has been falling in
Before Malik was playing well, and now there's that opportunity
On his conversations with Pitino - He's told me in person, where it's not a thing where I can't play, the teams playing*
The credit goes out to him (Pitino) and my teammates

Elliott Eliason
= I'm in there to block shots and get rebounds*
My personal goal was to stop Holt
He wasn't very happy, he had some choice words, and said we had to play D, and was upset about our energy and turnovers.*

Richard Pitino:
• Obviously, after such a tough start, I think it was 16-0, to find a way to fight back, I thought we did a good job defensively. Joey King was tremendous, Elliott was great defensively. Really happy with the win, and excited...the biggest thing about our seniors is, I don't want to send them off this court with a loss.
• At 14-0 was when I sensed that things weren't right. At halftime, we talked about not turning the ball over, and defend, that creates our own luck. The NIT is tough for everyone, because the goal is the NCAA. The fans were great tonight.
• On getting back in the game - I told them to make shots, put the ball in the basket, no, I really didn't. We just kept chipping away at it. They are a really good program, I thought our guys did not want to go home, they didn't want to be done.
• On why Malik Smith didn't play today - Mav is playing well, I think it's obvious that Mav's playing really well and giving us a lot.
• Elliott was huge. Holt was the other guy we were really concerned with. What I love to see, is that he wasn't playing great, Mav wasn't playing great, and now they are.
• On Joey King getting more shots - More than anything, it's the opponent, we run a lot of pick and rolls, and the last two opponents didn't switch. I think all year, he knows every word of the rouser, he grew up a MN fan, to have him on our roster, this bball program is very important to the state so it's important to have guys like him on the roster.
• I think it gets less tough to play in the NIT each game, the opponents get tougher. NCAA is on every TV, that's where you want to be. I put 6-7 reasons on the board about why you want to play. Your opponents, not sending your seniors off with a loss. You want to get to NYC, to play in the Mecca of college hoops, get your coach back to his roots. Do you love the game or not? They love the game, and it's fun to coach that.
• Our last loss was WI, and our D was atrocious. This is a chance to create turnovers, get stops, etc. We're getting probably 4 starters back, hopefully they can take advantage and keep that feelings.

Southern Miss up 10 on Mizzou. Not really sure who I'd rather play. Mizzou has not impressed me this year and I've seen about 2 min of USM.

Southern Miss does have "Good Chip/Bad Chip" Armelin. That would be kind of interesting. Albeit, very little.

I'd Much rather play a big name like Mizzou that would attract a much bigger crowd to the barn.

The ESPN graphic says the game is at '7 or 9.' Is the start-time still up in the air?

'Much' bigger? Seriously? If it sways even 100 people who wouldn't go anyway, I'd be shocked.

Announced time was 8:00p.
Thanks, GL. Always good to read your on-the-fly notes.
BTW, we sat by your friend C (who you shared your tickets for our cheap suite seats).

I hope Dre figures his issues out...he has not been good. Felt like the sat Malik down and Dre picked up the mantle of chucking up bad threes. Ugh.

Saint Mary's had Joe Coleman, and Southern Miss has Armelin.

I guess we don't have a shot of playing against Cobb and California next, huh.

On one hand, this is definitely no better than an NIT-caliber team right now. But if our star players were playing like star players...

Unless the above happens, it'll be tough to get any further in this tournament.

Well also the amount of people that will watch it on TV. Minnesota-Mizzou just sounds a heck of a more compelling matchup that Minnesota-Southern Miss.
