Disclosure - my notes are worst than usual, without the routine of home, we were running back and forth to catch the presser, and get the players, so more rushed that usual. This is the jist of what everyone said:

Tubby Smith:

• We didn't seem to have the focus that we should have had, obviously playing on the road against a team that's playing with some limited people. We had a full team of players, we had no excuses.
• NU does a good job in their 1-3-1
• We didn't play very smart, with one of the leading scorers and shooters in the leauge, Austin follows out. Bad decisions there. I put him in with 3 fouls, which was probably my fault, but I thought he was headier than that.
• I need to get more production out of Rodney Williams.
• We had a guy at the table after his 4th, I don't know what Austin was doing, I don't know why he'd go near the guy.
• I thought our effort was okay, we had a lot of good looks, but shot 29%, then we came back and shot only 39%
• Our shots didn't fall in the 2nd half
• Andre looked like he panicked, like he was scared, the fear of whatever it was, that's what I saw.
• Andre was 2-9, then he started passing up a couple when he was open. NU did a good job or running at him and flying at him.
• I think that we were playing from sideline to sideline, instead of attacking the basket.
• They get those passing lanes, and if you're not patient, and if you throw up quick shots or turn it over, it leads to easy baskets, it's demoralizing. You need to know when to go after it and when to trap.
• It's tough to simulate the 1-3-1 in practice, we obviously did a poor job of practicing it.
• NU is going to be scrappy, scratch and claw, and get you out of your game. There's no excuses, we tended to take ourselves out of the game with our attitude with "they're hitting me, or I'm being pushed."
• It's a case of leadership when you lose 3 in a row. I'm at a loss, I thought we had corrected some things. We've been turning the ball over. We haven't made the adjustments from a coaching stand point, and if we have, it hasn't carried over to the team.
• We had a lot of 2nd chance points. Right at the basket, that's disappointing, we talk about finishing at the
• Didn't think they gave up, attitude about complaining about something, pointing the finger. That's one of the things you have to deal with. You look at the ref, you look at the coach, that's the what losers do.

Austin Hollins:

(On not coming out on the 5th foul, and committing it) it was just a bad decision.

We just had too many turnovers and weren't attacking the basket, we were taking a lot of 3's

(On how they will come back) We just keep fighting, we know we're a better team than we showed tonight.

Trevor Mbakwe:

We couldn't attack the 1-3-1, that obviously gave us troubles

(On blaming each other, said they didn't though ) When things aren't going right, we hold each other to high standards, we're like brothers

I think they just focused on taking out the inside for me and Rodney

The way NU plays, they take the air out if the ball, like WI.

We had some good practices and felt good coming into this game.

2nd half, it was that 1-3-1 that got us

On Andre - it's the worst game he's played, it frustrated him, but he made some good shoots, he's hard worker, a good kid, and can have 20-30 against Wisconsin.

I need to get more production out of Rodney Williams.

+1M....Rodney really needs to be stronger on finishing around the rim and his teammates need to stop missing or not seeing him when he is open. Crisp passing.....IMO

Why not try a zone like Syracuse - stay out foul trouble and leave some energy for some offense.
Worst shooting ever - most of the misses were not even close - even the bunnies. And free throws Trevor could have salted away 8 more points - and missing 3 one and ones!!!!

Not sure what is going on with Rodney, but he has been really disappointing. He just can't finish when getting bodied down low. He's just throwing up shots at the rim that aren't even close.

Our shots didn't fall in the 2nd half

Maybe I'm mistaken but it seemed to me that the Gophers had about every open look they could have hoped for in first half but couldn't make a shot to save their collective lives. The second half wasn't much different of course but I thought we should have been ahead by at least 20 going into the half had we been able to make a few shots and free throws. NW was in massive foul trouble and we just couldn't take advantage then they threw the 1-3-1 at us and the rest was history.

Oddly, I'm very confident that we'll win at Wisconsin Saturday.

Agreed. We should have been up by 15 at half, and the game would have been over. When up by 8-9, we missed several wide open threes, then followed it up by fouling them and putting them on the line when they couldn't even get an open look out of their offense. With that said, i thought we settled for too many 3s in the 1st have, and should have given it to the beast EVERY time.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned more.

Forget junior-year Rodney. Right now we're seeing sophomore-year Rodney. I love the guy, but he needs to pull his head out of his butt and right the ship - and fast.

Not sure if that is really the problem with him. Just might be it's all he has or it might be coaching. I can't say for sure.

Rodney and this whole squad is a talented player and group that excel in open court run and gun basketball. The Big Ten teams slow you down and force you to run offense and we don't have one that the guys are able to run. It's a repeating theme. Last year at BT tournament time, once the guys stopped playing not to lose and just played, Rodney and others played loose and excelled. Now we are back to playing posession ball and we have no answer. I think a good system gives you confidence because you know it will work and a bad system sucks confidence out of you.

Tubby needs to take the heat, there was time to get Hollins out after his 4th foul. Time stopped for free throw, the guy should have been in rather than waiting. That is coaching. Spencer ripped Tubby on that snafu on the radio. Also kept saying that you would think the coaches could teach how to beat a 1-3-1 zone and that if any team doesn't zone the Gophers they are idiots

Comments about the 1-3-1 make it sound like some kind of weird defense or maybe a disease. It is a normal defense as zone or man-to- man. Any team and fan knows how to attack it. I thought the players played lousy and lazy including Trevor on defense of his man. Embarrassing performance - put that on individual effort. The turnovers were unforced, free throw misses non-chalant. Really -the turnovers were high-schoolish. Love this team, but disappointed with that NW performance.
