As always, I type on my phone, and for Tubby's live typing on my computer, so quotes are not 100% accurate, but captured the point.

Austin Hollins

We weren't very good down the stretch last year, we've done a much better job of that this year.

We know we can do it, going out there and actually doing it another thing.

Trevor

The non conference gets pretty long and Christmas break, we were all looking forward to this and preparing.

We're deep this year, Julian and Oto came in and got some points for us

We just came out ready to play, had a few stops on d

It feels great not having a brace on, after seeing AP yesterday, it's inspiring

I think it's a great test, we've all been looking forward to this. Coaches showed the players a Mike Tyson fight, showing them you got to be able to throw the 1st punch

Feeling a lot better than 2-3 months ago

I didn't know if I'd be playing here a few months ago (when asked about off court issues)

I tried to push hom around, but he's a big guy u can only do so much!

Walter Bond came in and gave us a motivational talk, and he played a Mike Tyson boxing match.

Rodney Williams
Usually we don't start the big 10 season off with a win, we can really turn things around this year.

It's good to have the rankings, but we have a bigger target on our back now, and will have to work harder.

To prove the heart and togetherness we have was big.

Tubby Smith

• We're very happy to get this win. When you play the Spartans, you know you have to play your best game. Our kids showed a lot of heart down the stretch. MSU is not going to beat themselves, you have to find a way to win the game. I think we set the tone during the game. Down the stretch, I like Rodney, Andre, Trevor, etc - that gave us the big stops when we needed it.
• We had a lot of fouls to give, which is critical against any team, but especially against a team like this.
• We've done a good job of carrying over from the NIT tournaemnt, and finding the leadership. I think the guys are leading by examples, it's about the character, heart and toughness. We're toughest when we play with our head as well.
• They play a zone, a 2-3 zone, and it takes a lot of those passing angles and gaps away from us. They are so long and atheltic, and we made very weak cuts at the time. We tried to make some adjustments there.
• We can learn a lot from this game, it is only 1 game, we have 17 more to go. We had a great crowd, great energy level in The Barn. The rankings are good, a confidence builder, good for our fanbase...but we have to prove it on the court everyday. We're finally growing up.
• I don't believe in showing it (the boxing video of Mike Tyson) - but my staff convinced me of it. I don't believe in a whole lot of gimmicks, but we did show it.
• Walter Bond did a good job today, I was impressed with him. Our team Chaplin goes out and gets people to come in and speak to us. He had a good motivational talk about executions. When he was with the Utah Jazz, he was told, execute, that's all you need to do.
• Trevor looks like he's trimmed down a bit, lost a few pounds. I'm glad Trevor was ready to play, he was hesitant in practice after not using his brace, but he wasn't today.
• If we can get better, the sky's the limit.
• Finished it off with Sid saying to Tubby "the last 10 minutes you really played basketball." Tubby "yes, we did."

Walter Bond has been a paid motivation speaker for a while now... does the U pay for his services or does he volunteer his services? i guess either way, its great for Mr Bond to pump our guys up before the game!
