The Gophers did not have one post entry pass to Murphy in the second half. Instead settling for guard slashes to the hoop and throwing up the three ball. ( 4-19 ) They ran nothing down low off the block to get Murphy the ball. Murphy had one tip in basket. That was it. Your best post player and he doesn't get the ball? Also, Konate and Gaston seem like real solid kids, but some of the stuff I see from them would make a junior HS coach cringe. Their footwork, positioning, ball awareness has not improved one iota. Both these kids started basketball late in life and don't belong on a B1G basketball court. They should transfer out at year end down to D3 programs. At one point in the second half Gaston came in for Konate. As the ball was being rotated on the perimeter by OSU,
he was looking down at his feet to see if he was positioned right for post defense! No kidding.

I agree with both your points. We were in the bonus at the 9 minute mark in the second half. At that point, its time to penetrate and go down low and turn this into a FT contest.

I also saw a couple of times where Konate's positioning on defense was atrocious. Some of this will hopefully come with more reps and get him to a point where he is no longer mechanical and not thinking about every movement, but until then, it is hard to watch at times.

Go Gophers!!

I'm glad that Konate bulked up in the off season. That shows that he's willing to work hard. He also has good size. I haven't seen talent or potential.

The lack of a decent 5 is the biggest problem for this team. Absolutely no inside-outside game, and a reluctance to press full-court.

A decent 5 and the tone around here would be a whole lot different.

Sorry, no link.

Hopefully Lynch fixes that next year and Konate keeps making strides

I'm going to start with the (questionable) assumption that the post pass is part of the offense. If it is, I've seen the Gophs miss a lot of opportunities to make a good one, as well as missed give-and-go's and pick-and-roll passes. I mean, what's the point of picking and rolling if you neglect to pass to a wide-open roller? Mason has been guilty of missing these opportunities on several occasions.

You've never heard of a post entry pass? Hmm....

I thought the Gophers ran a 4 out -1 in, motion offense against Oklahoma State. A post entrance doesn't seem to be the means by which the offense flows. Spreading out the court and looking for dribble penitration with a kick out for a three seems to be what Pitino had designed. This may be because the Gophers have little post play to begin with.
