We keep hearing how Jerry Kill has strong ties to the junior college ranks in Kansas and so I just looked on rivals at some of the kids who haven't committed yet, who play positions where we would consider a JuCo.

Marcus Kennard - WR - Butler County Community College (his offer list is really impressive, so I doubt we could swoop in late and grab this kid) (4 star)

Sylvester Williams - DT : He also has a ton of good offers. He might like the idea of getting a lot of snaps next season and most likely being a starter here his SR season. Sometimes it's hard for these JuCo guys to get on the field much. (4 star)

Duron Carter - WR : Only offer is a good one (LSU), but we might be able to get into the sweepstakes with this kid. LSU also offerred Kennar so if he picks LSU, we might be more apt to be able to get Carter. (3 star)

Jamal Womble - RB: I know we are deep at RB next season, but this kid would give us a little more depth in our classes. After next season we will just have a bunch of RS So's at RB and by then Womble will be a SR. He's also built a little different from our current RBs, he is 5'9" 230 lbs. Additionally, Kill was already recruiting him to go to Northern Illinois. (3 star)

Zack Stoudt - QB: This is entirely based on whether or not Coach Kill is comfortable with Alipate or if he thinks he is a dud (like some people on this board). If Kill doesn't trust Alipate, it might make sense for us to bring on a more seasoned QB for a backup (players who run like Gray will next season tend to get a bit banged up). (3 star)

I hope we keep the number of JUCO kids to a minimum, it just kicks recruiting holes down the road.

I could see Duron Carter ending up here if Kill goes after him hard. Kid would have a lot of support here

Yep, I think a WR would make sense to bring in on the JuCo ranks. He would essentially be taking over for Hill not qualifying academically.

Womble probably makes the least amount of sense (at RB), it might just be nice to have a kid on our team between Fr and SR in classes.

Does anyone know if there is a chance Hill could be with the Gophers next year? Or will it be another year at JuCo for him?

Duron Carter only ends up here only if dad is willing to write the checks, remember, he started at Ohio State. The B10 intra-concerence rules would apply.

If there's a Jeff Wills type who could add a little experienced depth to the OL, that would be my priority.

Is that true in this case?
Didn't he get kicked out of Ohio State?

He is not "transferring" to Minnesota (Hypothetically) by the usual definition. He got kicked out (or quit, I can't remember) and went to JC for a year (or two?). I am not sure if that rule would apply.

recruits not JUCO transfers~~

I would much rather see in-state recruits than JUCO transfers!! Grades are important.

I'd be fine if the add some JUCO help, they could use some help on the OL, at WR and at DB. If anybody transfers that would also create a need for more depth.

I'm all for bringing in some WR help from the JUCO ranks........as long as they don't turn out like that highly hyped JUCO wide out who just completed his senior season..

I don't really see WR as a pressing need right now. Each of our top 6 leaders in receptions this year will be returning next season, though of course Gray will be at QB and Stoudemire presumably at DB. Still though, I feel like McKnight and Lair could blossom into true go-to receivers going into their senior years, and Bryant Allen in my opinion looks pretty promising at wideout too.

I think the first point of emphasis with this team should be in trying to figure out what we need to do in order to generate some kind of a pass rush, so if we can get immediate help with that through the JUCO ranks, then you've got to look at it.

One of the things that Coach Kill reiterates over and over and over again is that the first thing he's always done and will be looking to do here is add speed in all areas. He's a big fan of speedy players and he's also willing to sacrifice size for speed if that's what needs to happen.

Regarding Duron Carter, once he goes to juco, he is able to get a scholarship at any Big Ten school.

I was going to post it around the time brew got fired but figured it wasn't worth it anymore but I talked to several parents of gopher players who we're at the Larry Fitzgerald workouts this summer at the U and they said Duron was telling people he wanted to come to MN and he really hit it off with Marquies and Brew was working papa Carter very hard. Now that was awhile ago and who really knows how sincere it was. Sid was there and heard it though and thats why he was writing about it back in August. It is definately something I hope we follow up on just to be sure.

Heck yeah. If a talented player wants to play here, then bring him on.

McKnight is going to be a senior, so a JUCO WR (or two) might make some sense. Lair and Eure are both seniors, so a TE might also be needed. I think a JUCO DT may also be in order.

Agree that we don't want to load up on JUCOs, but I read on a thread here yesterday that Kill's pattern has been red-shirting his entire freshman class and if that pattern holds, we are going to need some battle-ready bodies.

Duron Carter currently has offers from a 'who's who' of college football heavyweights...Oregon, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio State, and others.

He will be taking some official visits this winter.

Don't look for him to return to the Big 10.

BTW, he might just play one more year at the college level...and be a 3-and-done guy.
He is blowing up, talent-wise, and could be ready for the NFL draft in 2012.
You can see some of Duron in Sidney Rice's game:)

According to Rivals Duron Carter has one offer and it's from LSU.

I happen to know the family...from their Eden Prairie days. He's got a ton of offers.

Just watch and see where he has taken...and will be taking...his Official Visits this winter.;)

Dinky, I believe that.

I don't think it is very often that you get a lone offer from a school of LSU's caliber (unless you're a really early commit). The kid seems talented and I hope that he gives some thought to the U and we go after him.

Problem is not a lot of WR's will want to play in this offense, especially Carter who has NFL dreams. They did have pretty solid receivers with one stand out at NIU, so he still might be able to get his guys.
