Objectively:
Minnesota, at 10-2 (7-2), is tied for second-best record in the B1G (with Penn State). That record puts the Gophers ahead of Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa. This represents rarified air for the Gophers.
But... where do we really stand? And what can we realistically expect, going forward?
My thoughts:
Ohio State stands alone in our conference. No one can seriously threaten them, right now.
Right now, Wisconsin might stand second. They're tough, and they've maintained a high standard, but they're clearly a notch below the Buckeyes.
Minnesota — today, right now — might actually stand third, or at least part of a grouping loosely tied for third. Penn State, Iowa and Michigan are in the same tier with the Gophers, right now.
Going forward, Minnesota appears to have serious forward momentum. We're new to this. We're excited. The team has an amazing energy and enthusiasm surrounding it. The future looks enticing and bright. Goals have been set at a new, higher level.
Going forward, it seems likely that Wisconsin and Iowa will remain... Wisconsin and Iowa.
Michigan appears to be at a crossroads with Harbaugh. Hard to tell what will happen, going forward.
Penn State seems to have carved out their niche. I would expect much of the same, going forward.
Ohio State...
Is this new regime that good? Can they maintain post-Urban success at this high level? It seems amazing to me that they could lose a Hall of fame coach and not miss a beat. Is the other shoe going to drop at some point? It will be interesting to watch...
