Position battle tid-bits

Don't claim that your opinion or perception is fact or do you need a dictionary?

My opinion or perception was based off of facts and or knowledge. I nor did any one else claim my or their opinions as fact.

Coaches often have blind spots from their own philosophies, such as Wacker sticking year after year to a pass-a-lot, little defense style & not learning from the results. You can glance at a coach's records and see patterns (like Dan Devine's low scoring-but-opponents-scoring-even-lower approach, year after year: 10-7, 7-6, 7-0, 14-13, etc. Contrast with June Jones at Hawaii, won a lot but by scores like 44-41, 54-48, 59-34, etc. Ditto Lavell Edwards at BYU, scoring a lot, but giving up points, too. Players fit into the system as the coach sees the system. Some win, some don't.

You are forgetting some coaches, like John Gutenkunst, like to coach with 14 men on the field, 10 men on the field, 12 men on the field. He liked to mix it up. Made for fun watching cuz the fans could count how many men he would have on the field each play.

And therefore not allowed, I guess. Not sure what some folks think a message board is for?

At what point did I say that? Saying that someone showed dominance during practice and a scrimmage is an opinion. I will send a reading comprehension guide along with the dictionary.

Dang season can't start soon enough, too much squabbling.

How about this for a template:

"Kill said he is moving player X from position 1 to position 2. I am sure the coaching staff has its reasons for the move - but I don't understand/don't agree. I think player X is better suited for position 1. I'm not saying I know more than the coach - I'm just expressing my opinion."

can everyone live with this?

NOPE!

Just let the coaches coach and we'll know at the end of the season how many big ten wins we have. Then, and only then, will we know whether we've had a successful season. Until then, I'm not sure what we should post.

While I read all opinions, the amount of b.s. just keeps piling up.

Wren - is that you? Did you wear out your caps lock key?

In all seriousness though where has Wren been? I'm a bit worried about the guy.

Kill receives overwhelming support on this site. I'm sure even those posters who dared to wonder, on a Gopher football message board, why they moved 3rd string 250 lbs DE to DT, support Kill.

I don't recall the same backlash from the Cult of Kill-has-a-plan when some posters dared to give their opinions (in agreement) with the switch of Elmore to DE.

Those opinions are every bit as worthless, they are coming from people who know N.O.T.H.I.N.G., so why didn't anyone say "Who cares if you agree? Kill has a plan and he doesn't need your approval!".

I can't imagine there is a sane Gopher fan who doesn't support Jerry Kill. He's earned it. However, as fans, can't we have a little banter? Is it so bad if I say something like "damn, why did we blitz on that play?" or "I wish we'd pass more to our RBs?" I acknowledge Kill and his staff know more than I know, but that tired response can be used for just about any post on here.

You like a certain recruit? "Your opinion doesn't matter, Kill's does"
You don't like a certain recruit? "Your opinion doesn't matter, Kill's does"
You wish we'd run more screens? "Limegrover has a ton of experience, who are you to have an opinion?"
You liked that last play? "Limegrover has a ton of experience, who are you to have an opinion?"

We get it!

I could've used the same "lighten up" video myself. I don't think there's one person on this board who thinks they know more than the coaches. But we're not allowed to discuss it? What are we supposed to discuss?

Actually, Shorty was right when he suggested that it isn't just what you say, but how you say it. Unfortunately, I doubt if people are going to change they way they communicate here. Every once in a while I thought wren was capable of changing the way he communicated but no cigar.

I am reminded about the recent understanding of how best to learn.

First, scan the subject. Don't dig in deep just yet.
Second, try to answer a question, whether or not you have the facts right or wrong. This sets up the brain to remember.
Scan for the big ideas.
Talk about those ideas.
Identify what people are saying.
Go back to the question.
Test yourself on the question.
Take a break.
Assess your own understanding.
Identify how your opinion differs from other opinion and why is it different.
When ready, move on to the next question.

Sounds very much like the life of a message board.

Geez, that seems like a lot of work.
