--There still is no clear frontrunner in the competition to find a successor at fullback for Mike Henry. Redshirt Jephete Matilus, who switched to fullback at the start of camp after three years at linebacker, junior college transfer Miles Thomas and redshirt sophomore Tyler Hartmann are all vying for the starting role.

Tight ends/H-backs coach Rob Reeves said none of the three have separated themselves yet in the position battle. With less than two weeks to go until the Gophers open the season against Eastern Illinois, the final starting decision could be a last-minute call.

--In 2013, Drew Goodger and Lincoln Plsek were consistently rotated in from series to series at the Y-tight end spot. Reeves expects to do the same thing with the duo this season.

--The top two spots in the defensive tackle rotation appear to be set, with two-year starter Cameron Botticelli and junior Scott Ekpe leading the way. Beyond Botticelli and Ekpe, defensive line coach Jeff Phelps said Wednesday there was a heavy competition for the available second unit spots, mentioning that senior Harold Legania was in that mix.

However, during his weekly radio appearance Sunday on WCCO-AM, Kill revealed that Legania has moved to the offensive line to give him a better chance at playing time.

With Legania no longer in the equation, the competition at D-tackle is somewhat clearer. Freshman Steven Richardson has made a strong push for a spot during the first two weeks of practice. He's vying for a place in the rotation with Demaris Peppers and sophomore Yoshoub Timms. Junior Robert Ndondo-Lay was recently shifted over to tackle from defensive end to add another element to the position battle.

Phelps plans to begin solidifying the first and second teams on the D-line over the weekend.

The Legania move makes no sense. Why move a senior in the middle of fall camp of his senior year. Now we read Legania was "in the mix" at DT. Makes no sense, possibly a mistake by Kill on the WCCO interview?

I suspect he wasn't going to be in the mix and they needed another OL for practices/scout. A different way to help your team.

Unlike those of us on GH, the coach's are clueless. Don't worry. Once Kill reads our posts, he'll switch them back.

Would guess that Kill's spin on it was coach speak but would bet you nailed it in that he is unlikely to see the field on either offense or defense but they were in need of extra bodies on the O-Line. Based on what we have seen/read about the overall depth of the O-Line it seems hard to believe he would be in the mix to get game action there so he is almost certainly headed for the scout team.

As was pointed out you rarely see a senior switch positions especially this late in fall camp if that player is expected to make any sort of impact on gameday. Just doesn't happen.

Man, posts like this are tiresome.

No they are not. Posts like this are made because some of our commentors show absolutely nothing in trying to show they know more than the Kill Staff does, and make fools of themselves in the meantime. I call it "frustrated jock syndrome".

Can you imagine if us Gholers got paid for the coaching knowledge we possess?

As tiresome as "this move makes no sense". Every move makes sense when you realize that professional football coaches with dozens of years of experience are making these decisions. Thank god its not any of us, who know nothing about what us best for this team. N O T H I N G.

We'd be running a deficit.

Not sure I would go so far as to say the fans know nothing but totally agree that in all areas of how the roster is managed I would definitely defer to the coaches who see the players everyday over a fan that stood on the sidelines for a practice or watched a kid play in high school.

Coaches know they have to win and are going to play the guys they feel give them the best chance to do that, no matter what the fans "think" they know about player X or player Y.

Brewster had dozens of years of coaching experience, is he off limits for criticism after FCS losses and a 3 win seasons simply because he knows more about the game than we do?

Make your argument "every coach that has ever been fired", and decide if you still want to make that argument.

I knew speculation was off limits on this message board, but apparently now our opinions on moves are too. Don - what would you suggest we do post on here?

Wow! So You're going compare or equate roster moves with Brewster's coaching. That's quite a leap. Don't hurt yourself on the way down.

Big Ten WINS and LOSSES.

I think you get this Killjoy, but the irritation is that any time anyone on this board states their opinion (on a message board) there are a few folks that jump all over them ('experts', 'know more than coach', etc.). Opinions are the point of GH. We aren't required to agree with the coaches even if they are right. If all we want is facts on what has happened we could read the beat writers and leave it at that. Some like discussing different opinions. I'm not saying that is you, it may be, everyone knows who those folks are.

Maybe you just need to include a disclaimer stating that your comments are fictional and are not based on any real knowledge or facts. They are presented as speculation and should be used only for entertainment. I believe that how they handle this situation in the movies.

Only GH Admin needs a disclaimer, killjoy. Anyone can say anything, except you, dpodoll, and me.

My confusion as to why he would be moved to DT is based off the fact that he is listed at 250 while the average Big Ten starting DT this year is about 293 and it would make sense to wait until he is about 275 at least to move him inside. Plus whenever i watched him at practices, spring games or scrimmages he consistently dominated as a pass rusher on the edge even against guys like Pirsig. Many gopherholers have seen and said the same thing as well. That is absolutely based on real knowledge or facts.

That is called perception, or an opinion.

Well Don, I always tell my kids that it isn't what you say, but how you say it. Never too old to learn I guess.

Don't claim that your opinion or perception is fact or do you need a dictionary?
