Not off to a very good start, save for their big dogs and Maryland. After round 1, they have lost a 4 seed, a 5 seed, and two 7 seeds (meaning, all to double digit seeds, and their 4 seed, Wake Forest, was dominated). As many had said, B.C. appeared to be the most overseeded team in the tourney, getting trounced by U.S.C. (and causing Gopher fans to lament that they weren't able to get that 7 seed, rather than Texas).
Of course, there's a very good chance UNC and Duke will make it to the Final Four; but as Selection Sunday stated earlier this week, the idea of the ACC as the strongest overall conference is often refuted by the next level of teams in the ACC, once they hit the NCAA tournament. No tears shed here, that's for sure.
After one round, here's how the 6 major conferences are looking:
Pac 10 5-1; lower seed wins: 2 (#10 USC, #12 Arizona); higher seed losses: 1 (#7 Cal)
Big 12 6-0; lower seed wins: 1 (#9 Texas A&M); higher seed losses: 0
Big East 6-1; lower seed wins: 0; higher seed losses: 1 (#6 West Virginia)
Big 10 4-3; lower seed wins: 2 (#10 Michigan, #12 Wisconsin); higher seed losses: 2 (#5 Illinois, #8 Ohio State)
ACC 3-4; lower seed wins: 1 (#10 Maryland); higher seed losses: 4 (#4 Wake Forest, #5 Florida State, #7 Boston College, and #7 Clemson)
SEC 1-2; lower seed wins: 0; higher seed losses: 0
