He better, 1 in three years shouldn’t be a huge deal. Don’t even need a winning record in the big ten. 3 non conf and a bowl Gets you half….
gopherhole has weird formatting on polls so you can't read the line above the poll that states 8 regular season wins. I have no idea why they have never fixed that.

So you would need to win at least 5 conf games depending on how you do in the non-conf.

You gonna bet $1k on that?

Then I’ll be impressed😃

Assuming Fleck is not fired, I would bet a very large sum of money that he will win 8+ again at some point in the future. If Vegas would give me that bet, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

As fan for nearly 50 years I’ll say that his recruiting is not bad now. You can’t forget the years of misery before (Salem, Stoll, Wacker, Gutey, some mediocrity with Mason, then misery, mediocrity with Kill, now a pretty good run with PJ.) the current staff. Did any of them in the last 50 years recruit some stellar talent? You think it’s easy to bring players here? Only guy I saw do it was Holtz and man…if Notre Dame didn’t come calling I think he could have built something great here.
I might be in the minority here, but I thought Kill was a very good coach and had a great staff to support him. He definitely left PJ something to build on.

8 regular season wins? C'mon! That's only 3 non-con wins and a 5-4 conference record. The Gophs could still do it this year with a realistic upset next week and an above average performance versus the Fadgers.

Heck, they have a better than 50/50 chance of winning 8 games next year IMO.

Excluding bowl games?

I think it could happen in 2025

Beat:
Buffalo
Northwestern state
Cal
Purdue
Northwestern

Go 3-2 Against
Michigan state
Iowa
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Rutgers

Go 0-2 against
Ohio state
Oregon

Obviously team lost to a few of those wins in the last two years…and that’s why the last two years were disappointing

I think PJ deserves credit for making the Gophers competitive year after year. That being said i no longer believe he's going to take the Gopher football program to the next level. I'm to the point that i dont believe it can be done. Lets be honest the Big10 has been dominated by Ohio St and Michigan for years. With the addition of Oregon its going to be a 3 team conference while all the rest of the teams vie for scraps.

Who recruited the OL that is the worst in Fleck's tenure?

That is why Fleck is not a good coach. He cannot recruit plays to compete at a Big 10 level.
Too many top in state OL played elsewhere over the years. We don't produce many top QB's, DB's, RB's, etc but we do have a fair amount of instate OL talent. We need to keep them at home. We won't get them all, but we can do better.

Like who? Outside of Alt, who is already in the NFL anyways, I can’t think of a bunch of top instate linemen that went elsewhere that would be huge upgrades. Fleck has locked up most of them.

First off we do compete at a Big10 level. He’s put players in the NFL as well at a good clip. Secondly, you could bring in Nick Saban and still be unlikely to recruit on the level of the blue bloods of the big10. Remember how Fleck recruited really well in the MAC by their standards? Kind of shows what he can do when his program is on a more level playing field.

What blue chip OL got way besides Joe Alt? Even in that case, Notre Dame is a lifelong dream for a lot of Catholic school kids.

He must be one of the best in game coaches of all time then if he's gone 28-21 in the Big 10 since 2019 without Big 10 level talent.
I don't think that 28-21 is a reflection of in game coaching as much as it is development of players and team. I think development of men is his focus and he's good at it.

I just don't see it that way, sure, I'd like to believe Oregon will be a dominate team in the B1G conference. I do think Mich is sort of stepping into some muddy waters and just may slide into a hole. I think the conference is going to change, more agressive on offense and maintain the great defenses. I think a lot of teams can make a run for it. Look at Indiana this year. Also, Ohio St has problems if they don't win a NC this year. There fan base expect a NC and if they lose they will start blaming someone... Kelly, Day the defensive guy. All I'm saying is it's going to be very very hard to stay on top.

Big problem for Oregon is the possibility of people poaching coaches. What I'm trying to say is this is a very very fluid environment and anything can happen.

Oregon will be just fine and will benefit nicely from joining the Big 10. Michigan is having a down year but will bounce back because they're Michigan. Ohio St fans can whine all they want it doesn't change the fact they are and have been the best team in the Big 10 forever. Indiana is a fluke and every so often that sort of thing happens.
What's fluid is conference affiliation and college rosters, what isn't are the teams that dominate its landscape. I hope I'm wrong because I would love nothing better than to see the Gopher win a Big 10 title and make the CFB playoffs but I ain't holding my breath.

Maybe. But it gives the rest of us hope.

IMHO Cal Stoll was better than many think considering the small number of bowl games, higher/ no scholarship limits, and playing in the Big Two - little eight era. Beating: Washington, UCLA, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin in one season (77') is impressive in any era.
I was there. Stoll could coach.

Agree that Stoll doesn’t get proper credit. And while 1977 was a very fun season to be sure, one correction - we lost to Iowa that year.
