So, where does she stand now after this less than stellar season? Good, Bad or indifferent?

Need's more athletic post and good athletes like Mckinney. I think the system is in place and shows signs of improvement. Big 10 is now the most competitive conference in country. The 2026 player Orlhein is a really good shooter. I would like to have seen how this season would have went with a healthy Woodson and Braun.

We will have at least 5 new players counting Bruan, Woodson, and the 2 freshmen. So, room for only one or two more, depending on portal action.

Caitlin Clark put us "Big Ten" on a pedestal and if it wasn't for USC and UCLA we would've been just another mid-tier conference. Ohio State and Maryland aren't challenging any of the top teams and Iowa's offense can only take them so far.

I can say with a high level of confidence that she is the second-best coach we’ve ever had, behind only Frese, and I’m thankful we have her. She will get the most out of whomever she is coaching. I think we will see a steady improvement in recruiting as well. There really is no limit to what this program can become if we can be competitive with other B1G programs in this revenue-sharing/NIL environment. The program will be in very good hands if she chooses to remain here.

Injuries and inheriting lack of athletes did her in this season but future looks better

From the beginning to the end of the season, did individual players improve? Did the team as a team improve?

This is her 2nd season and has been without Braun for a majority of the 2 season and without a key reserve in Woodson. I'm excited to see how next season goes and with her recruits coming in, the team will continue to improve.

Need to find more offense as clearly big 10 good offenses are beating our defense. Washington was able to pick apart our D and get any shot they wanted for most of the game. This team without Braun and Woodson has the talent to be an NCAA team. Had Braun and Woodson stayed heathy you would be looking to get to at least the sweet 16.

Some of her lineup decisions are baffling, taking Heyer out who was the best player in the 1st half 3 minutes of the 2nd half to put in Klick and Holloway who hadnt played all game didnt make any sense, Gophers went from 4 down to 16 down in like 4 minutes then Heyer came back in and the lead got back down to like 6 but the game was basically decided by that stretch with her on the bench.

The BIG10 is the third competitive conference in the country. The SEC in far and away the most athletic and competitive conference.
1. SEC
2. ACC
3. BIG10
4. BIG12
5 BIG EAST

She can coach, but she needs to recruit better.
Yes, do think she is a good coach, but just like players, need to make adjustments. Needs to find time to focus on offense and not just defense.

Did do well in the Summit League with South Dakota. Defense was probably ok for main focus in the Summit League those years.

1 year at West Virginia - squeaked into NCAA just like we may have a chance this year. Seems that team also at WV struggled to score in their conference schedule. Last year WV with Mark Kellogg out performed and made to 2nd round of NCAA and this year they are 23-6 and well on their way and higher scoring.

2 years here, the offense has been a struggle. She brought in, of the ones playing, Stewart, GG, Tori, Johnson, Rose. Heyer, Battle were top recruits and have lots of talent. She has seen now two years in a row, yes D is important, but the W goes to the one who scores the most points and big 10 teams can score as have lots of talent!

You want to fill seats, higher scoring teams are more exciting to watch(Iowa is a good example, and a few more tougher schedule non conference games for team and fans to get excited about. Has to be tough to blow out many in non conference then have awaking in the conference schedule. Her saying is FIND A WAY! I hope she finds a way to get more offense and not just be about trying to get stops.

Rah!

When it comes to college women's basketball, there are a lot of great basketball players, there are not a lot of great athletes.

It's the opposite of men's basketball, where there are a lot of great athletes but not a lot of great basketball players.

That's why having a really good system built on strong defensive fundamentals and ingrained in your players can work so well in men's basketball. Dawn seems to have that down for the women. She now needs athletes. She knows this.

Idk if this makes me sexist, it's just what I've always noticed.

UConn? Athletes.
South Carolina? Athletes.
Maryland? Athletes.

I totally agree drewhaus7. Scoring 57 points in a Big Ten game isn't going to win many games at that level. Apparently, Dawn hasn't gotten that memo yet. She's not good at player development. She is bringing in some higher profile offensive players in the next 2 classes but will they play. If she didn't play a top 60 player nationally will She play them?

I think we have a pretty astute coaching staff. The head Coach understands the framework of major college basketball at a high level even recruiting. The defensive system is in place. Now it is building an offense that consistently scores as the next step. It's only year 2. Year 3 will be like going from Freshman to Seniors, in recognition. The program has hungry players that are willing to put in the work and are doing that. Paitence is key. Good things are happening, this is a fun team effort wise to watch play the games.

Someone on the mens board said Scoggins had an article today about the money. Quoted Coyle as saying he wants to spend $5-6m in rev share/NIL to be top third in conference for men's bb. That will leave either a struggling football team or nothing for sports outside of those two. Using Georgia as an example, they are on record as saying 75% to football, 15% to mens basketball, didn't say on rest.

Gotta remember that this is season 2. Lost 2 of the top 8 rotation players (including the one who most consider the best). And it's seems there are offensively gifted players coming in next year.
I'm still shocked that anybody looked at our Gophers, then the rest of the Big 10 coming into the season and believed that we were, at best, a bubble team. Once we lost Woodson and Braun, there were no "Difference Makers" left on the bench to make up for them. To be honest, I still believe that we still had too many defensive breakdowns (or lack of the quickness needed to close out on distance shooters) that cost us games as compared to Hart missing lay-ups. There's a reason that coaches in every sport at every level have been preaching for 70 years that "Defense Wins Championships".

As some have mentioned, the Gophers could use a couple of more shooters. Braun is definitely one. I agree with those who mention we could use some more athletic defenders. I think Klick and Holloway are the current players most likely to help in that area (assuming Holloway can pick up on the technical and mentally instinctive things that she needs to know). What I'm not interested in is a player that can score 20, but also gives up 20 on the defensive side.

Again, even with Braun and Woodson, I'm not sure how good our Gophers were in terms of being a tournament team. With-out them, we became a team that probably could upset a decent tournament team a few times out of 10, but certainly not better than most of the teams we'll see in the NCAA tourney. In addition to the new commits, pretty sure Coach P has a pretty specific list of a couple of types that she's hunting in the portal this year. I have a lot of confidence in her.
