Not trying to speculate on PJ's future status - but what is his buyout right now?

Please delete thread - just saw it after I posted this.

If Fleck leaves before Dec 31 he owes the U $7M
If Fleck is fired before Dec 31 the U owes Fleck $19,727,500.

Fleck has bought himself more goodwill/time with the team’s resurrection/resurgence. That guaranteed money number goes down by roughly $4.5M per year until Fleck’s contract is extended another year, or two years, or five years.

How long is his current contract? Imo it should never be shorter than 4 years.

No one is begging to hire him away. If we, someday, make the CFP, then maybe. Until then, I think we're pretty safe. Assuming he doesn't decide he'd rather take a job somewhere south. But I think he's at a point where he's made a mark here, why not stay and finish the job.

I also think his reputation is such that a lot of schools won't necessarily want to buy into his schtick. I could not see him in the SEC to be honest.

I don't think they'll be looking for a coach for awhile, but when talking about the trip to UCLA last week, Fleck said there's two stadiums he vowed not to set foot in unless he was playing/coaching in them. One was the Rose Bowl. The other was in South Bend. If Notre Dame ever calls, he'll have his bags packed before they hang up the phone on the other end.

If that 20 million number is accurate regarding what he gets if he is fired then Coyle has committed AD malpractice.

ND and Michigan are the two I think it's 100% he'd leave for. Anything else it would depend on the $$ etc. I'm not sure taking say, Florida in the new SEC is something you would do unless you just intend to cash in for 4 years, get fired and pull a Bret Bielema and end up back at Indiana or Purdue etc.

The big schools like USC, Michigan typically like to have coaches with some sort of connection to the school or be one of the former successful coach’s acolytes. Until that well runs dry. Maybe we’ll see Kiffin get another shot with the Trojans someday…

I cannot see ND or Michigan (or any traditional blue blood for that matter) actually hiring PJ.

Those type of schools are not going to allow him to slap RTB on everything, embrace his mantra and oddball slogans...just not going to happen.

Still more than a year of his salary. Don't think there's many schools out there, given he's not for everyone, willing to cough up more $$ to cover his payback on top of what they'd be paying him.

It's not likely, but perspectives change after a down turn. Neither job is likely to be open for at least a year or more.

Some people are worried he’ll leave. I don’t think he leaves or is ever fired barring something scandalous or numerous eyeball-scarring losing seasons like 2023 or 2017. If he were to really over perform expectations then maybe.
