PJ Fleck appeared on the Sports Show with Sid, Dave and Max on Sunday, March 25th.
Sid: A Lot different Spring this year, with most of players healthy compared to last year
PJ: had to be creative last year with 4 OL healthy. this year everybody knows the system, knows how to practice, knows the expectations
Sid: You Red-shirted some good players last year
PJ: we'll probably red-shirt some of the 2018 recruits. don't sacrifice what you want down the road for what you need right now. (as far as red-shirts) Chris Bell, Douglas, some of the true FR will help, Thomas Rush. Ray Estes. lot of guys we'll be happy with. Still have a youthful team, will go through growing pains.
Sid: Your red-shirt QB (Morgan) is improved
PJ: Give our QB coach lot of credit. developing QB's. need to find a starter. long way to go. we see Tanner improving in every area - knowing the scheme . Its like he's on calculus right now. last year he was doing beginning algebra.
Sid: SQotW. (7 players who enrolled early.......)
PJ: it's a plus any time you can start college early. like getting a 7-8 month head-start. eliminate some of the learning process. have a semester under their belts during the off-season. starting in-season is more hectic. proud of guys who reported early. adapted to our culture.
Mona: (players who enroll early) do they go back and graduate with HS Class?
PJ: I allow all our players to go back for graduation, HS events. want them to have major milestones in HS.
Max: any FR vie for RB time?
PJ: Expect RB coming in in June to have opportunity. Williams, Edmonds. As far as guys who are already here, Ibrahim is shifty, elusive, speed to power quickly. not biggest guy. Femi-Cole. going to have to step in and do things. guys on roster will take majority of load. know more as we get into summer and fall camp.
Sid: OL in better shape.
PJ: 4 Fr haven't arrived yet. 3 arrived early. good thing - tremendous off season in weight room. Olson, Weyler, Greene, Schlueter, guys who are coming into their own. providing depth. not where we want to be in terms of numbers. getting better. 2nd year in program.
Mona: do you find ways for Brooks to feel he's part of team.
PJ: he will become Coach Brooks. Be Coach Burns' assistant. coaching young guys up at practice. normal rehab stuff. used as an assistant coach. he can learn our whole offense. be able to move to different positions.
Sid: will you get an extra Year for Winfield, Douglas?
PJ: That's going to happen. word doesn't come officially for a while. look forward to having those guys in the program
Max: when do you decide on Spring Game format?
PJ: maybe this week or next week. different from last year. be a lot of action. Fans will enjoy true spring-game feel. will announce later on.

PJ: Always recruiting. never stop. plan for future. ton of recruits in on Saturday. for 2019 class. new rules on when kids can take official visits - given HS athletes a lot of options. see decisions being made later in year. last Year Feb - March, this year pushed back to April and June. new year for everybody. kids make plans for 5 official visits - early or later.
