How has Coach Fleck's teams performed after a loss? Here's a breakdown:

2017:
  • After losing to Maryland, the Gophers lost to Purdue, 17-31
  • After losing to Purdue, the Gophers lost to No. 21 Michigan State, 27-30.
  • After losing to Michigan State, the Gophers WON Vs. Illinois, 24-17
  • After losing to Iowa, the Gophers lost at Michigan, 10-33.
  • After losing to Northwestern, the Gophers lost to No. 5 Wisconsin, 0-31.

2018:
  • After losing to Maryland, the Gophers lost to Iowa, 31-48
  • After losing to Iowa, the Gophers lost at No. 3 Ohio State, 14-30
  • After losing to Ohio State, the Gophers lost to Nebraska, 28-53
  • After losing to Nebraska, the Gophers WON Vs. Indiana, 38-31.
  • After losing to Illinois, the Gophers WON Vs. Purdue, 41-10.
  • After losing to Northwestern, the Gophers WON at Wisconsin, 37-15.

2019
  • After losing to No. 20 Iowa, the Gophers WON at Northwestern, 38-22.
  • After losing to No. 12 Wisconsin, the Gophers WON Vs. No. 12 Auburn, 31-24.

2020
  • After losing to Michigan, the Gophers lost to Maryland, 44-45 in OT
  • After Losing to Maryland, the Gophers WON at Illinois, 41-14.
  • After losing to Iowa, the Gophers WON Vs. Purdue, 34-31.

2021
  • After losing to No. 4 Ohio State, the Gophers WON Vs. Miami OH, 31-26
So after losing a game, Fleck's teams are 9-8. That's pretty close to .500 but it does mean Fleck at least has some ability to getting the team back on track and not falling into a spiral. Also, he deserves credit for the game last year against Nebraska considering the time off and the players who were out.

Interesting info. I would contend that 2017 shouldn't really be factored into something like this as it was a transition year. So that would put the record at 8-4 coming off a loss.

That's definitely fair. I wanted to make sure I had all the data in there, but yeah the 2017 losses can be scratched out in a sense considering it was Fleck's first year.

Good info, but you guys are doing it wrong. What these numbers show is that Fleck has won three straight coming off a loss and eight of his last nine in that situation. :)

it's all about who you play and when you play them.

I contend that a lot of those wins are games the Gophers should have been expected to win.
You're supposed to beat bad teams - and you are allowed to beat teams that you are even with.
Shoot, on occasion you're even allowed to beat a better team.

And - this is not like coming off a conference loss.

This is coming off a loss to a MAC team, in a game where the Gophers were 31 point favorites.

for the rest of this season, - and also for the future of the program, the Purdue game is - I contend - a must win. another loss this week and things will get really ugly the rest of the way.

And when a team has a losing record (2017) I don't think it's a useful stat.

True. All of these were different points in the season against different types of opponents. I was just putting all the data on the table.

The Heather post reply.
this is not the MAC, it’s the B1G. It sucks that some fans get unruly, but guess what. It’s “PART” of what you sign up for when you join a P5 conference.

high school coaches don’t get paid millions to lead a team, not even 6 figures (here anyways, maybe Texas).

sorry that you have heard what you’ve heard Heather, but go to any other P5 game where their team who should be dominating an inferior opponent is losing/loses the game, it will be the same if not worse.

I can’t even imagine what SEC fans could be like if a team had a historical loss like the gophers did.

we didn’t just lose a game, we are now part of HISTORY, bad history.

The games all counted. He also left two wins on the field IMHO.

So 8-1 in his last 9 games coming off a loss? Is that good?

Doesn't this entirely depend on, you know, who you're playing in the next game?
