Pitino

great line-- made a radio out of a coconut. All of us Gilligan's Island fans are thrilled.

one of the things I notice about this team it that when they need to slow down and run a play, that they can get the ball where they need it just about any time they want it. They will run and gun and look out of control and then Pitino will call a play or they will come out of a time-out and look like they know what they are doing. I am still enthused and looking forward to the future being fun basketball to watch.

One spot where I think we struggle with that is at the end of first halves when we are holding for the last shot. In those situations, we always seem to wait too long and force up a crappy shot. It is really frustrating to see us holding outside the key and burning clock, and then not give ourselves enough time to get a good look (and maybe even a put-back).

I see practically all teams doing this. Even Penn State's winning shot the other day - DJ was out near midcourt with 5 seconds on the clock.

Defensive move, more interested in keeping the apposition from scoring and maybe getting more points than focusing on getting a bucket.

I understand the mentality, but I don't agree with it. How many times has one of my teams had that opportunity in a tie game, ended up with a horrible, rushed shot and then lost in overtime? Too many times. The same goes for football: if you have an opportunity to win the game by making one play, go for it and make the most of it, even if it means taking a risk. Opportunity may only knock once.

I'd definitely be willing to trade getting a good look and the chance for the put-back, even if it means the other team might get a defensive board and might be able to get the ball up court quickly enough to heave a desperation transition three from behind half-court. Cost-benefit analysis.
