What coach would you rather have?
What coach would you rather have?
Pitino. Shaka's style would never work in the B1G.
Shaka, but barely. A year ago this would have been an absurd question.
Not arguing, but have you watched Pitino coach? The guy gets it. Perfect mix of arrogance and confidence.Shaka is a name every recruit in the country knows, and now put him on big time program and he is going to have a field day recruiting. Sure people know the pitino name, but its not because of our pitino. There is no way you can compare Smart to Tubby, Tubby's time has come and gone, Shaka is just starting. Don't get me wrong, I love pitino and see him doing good things here, but no way I'd take him over Shaka if given the opportunity. Shaka took VCU to a final 4 and has consistently taken his teams into the NCAA tourney. Think about that for a second, Did any of us know who VCU was before Shaka? I think the rest of the nation would laugh their heads off reading this thread.

I think everyone here is delusional, pitino may end up being better, but shaka has proven way more than Pitino has yet, there is a reason why all these top name schools go after shaka year after year, including the gophers. This isn't a knock on pitino like some of you would try to paint it, but lets not put pitino on a pedestal where he has yet to earn it.
How dare you? People that you see here are the same people who praised Smart when he had that run in NCAA and was compared to young Tubby. How quickly things change? They say this becasue they have no way of getting Smart here. If Smart says that he would come here if offered, I bet you 99.99 % of these people will role the red carpet for him and name a few of their kids after him too.

Anthony Grant says hi. He hasn't done much at Alabama. But he did take VCU to the NCAA's and beat Duke. He was also about 30 minutes away from being Billy Donovan's successor at Florida. Let's not act like VCU was some basketball wasteland until Shaka arrived. It simpy isn't true.
Pitino is greater than Grant. Donovan is not close to retiring. Grant is closer to replacing Donovan, as Pitino is setting up his own legacy here.

I hope you're right, but aren't you the same guy who added "if he stays" to a comment about building the program? Richard has done a great job and I hope he stays here a long time, but the poor infrastructure in place at the U and the enticement of more money and an easier place to win has me perpetually worried about him pulling a "Lute Olson" and jumping to an easier place to win consistently. The '15 recruiting class will say a lot about how momentum in the program is perceived.
